He is no stranger to Kabristan Road, Seemapuri. This is the area where people sort waste regularly. More than 50 men and women work under a simple tarpaulin sheet that provides them the shade during the harsh summer.

Lack of water facilities is a major issue, and quite often, they have to buy bottled water. The two-liter bottle that some of them bring from their home is not sufficient to manage for the whole day.

Hope for these people came in the form of Matkas. Since the installation of the hydration point, a simple two-matka setup, everyone now drinks water from there and is glad they no longer need to spend money on bottled water.

Rahim diligently fills up the water matkas each day. He ensures the pots remain filled and also decorates them with artificial flowers. A simple gesture to say that the initiative is more than just a source of water; it’s a symbol of care, dignity, and community.

When the hydration point was set up, many believed it wouldn’t last long. But he proved them wrong.

Currently, the hydration point stands as a testament to how people can believe and bring change in their locality despite all odds.

Rahim works as a gig worker.
