Today Greenpeace released <a href=\"http:\/\/media.greenpeace.org\/archive\/Actor-David-Harbour-(Stranger-Things)-dances-with-penguins-in-Antarctica--plus-soundbites-from-Actor-Alison-Sudol-(Fabulous-Beasts).-27MZIFJXY630L.html\">video footage<\/a> of Harbour dancing with the \u2018guins.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This comes on the day that Oscar-winner <a href=\"http:\/\/media.greenpeace.org\/shoot\/27MZIFJXY6MSG\">Javier Bardem, scientists, and campaigners<\/a> show rare footage of the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/media.greenpeace.org\/collection\/27MZIFJX164YO\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Antarctic seafloor <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">at a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/greenpeace.de\/videos\/10156060040152488\/?q=greenpeace%20deutschland\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">press conference in Berlin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> about the importance of marine protected areas in the Antarctic. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After shimmying <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.harpersbazaar.com\/culture\/film-tv\/a13133608\/stranger-things-hopper-dancing-memes\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the Hopper dance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> with <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DavidKHarbour\/status\/965750993513218048\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">nonplussed Gentoo penguins<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> on a remote colony in the Antarctic Peninsula, Harbour said: \u201cProtect the Antarctic. Thank you Greenpeace. Thank you internet. I\u2019ve never had so much fun being humiliated.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Harbour has<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/issues\/ships\/14778\/stars-get-on-board-to-protect-the-strange-things-and-fantastic-beasts-of-the-antarctic-ocean\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> joined a Greenpeace expedition<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> which is in the Antarctic for three months conducting scientific research and campaigning for the creation of a vast Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary to protect penguins, whales and seals. At 1.8 million square kilometres, five times the size of Germany, it would be the biggest protected area on Earth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Boarding in Punta Arenas in Chile, Harbour braved a four-day transit across the notoriously rough Drake Passage, alongside Greenpeace\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AlisonSudol\/status\/953320364330827776\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">first Antarctic Ambassador<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, singer and actor Alison Sudol, of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The expedition has already seen the first submarine dives to a part of the Antarctic seafloor never previously visited by humans, to study rare and vulnerable species, as well as hosting Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem who <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/archive-international\/en\/press\/releases\/2017\/No-Country-for-Cold-Men-Oscar-winning-actor-Javier-Bardem-visits-Antarctic-seafloor-in-research-submarine-to-call-for-protection-of-the-Antarctic-Ocean1\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">went down in the submarine himself<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to see the abundance of wildlife.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Speaking from a penguin colony near the Antarctic Peninsula, David Harbour said: <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhen I first got on this trip I didn\u2019t really care that much about it. It was kind of a joke to me. And the more I\u2019m here the more I understand and sense and feel the majesty and the primal-ness of a place like this, that should be protected and kept pristine, so that it can ripple through to the rest of the world. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt would be a shame if industry came in here and tapped it of its resources. I think there are places in the world that are meant to be left untouched, that can help in things like climate change and can help keep the world in balance.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Speaking directly to the governments that will take the decision on whether or not to create an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary, Alison Sudol said:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYou have the opportunity right now to preserve something that is still in good shape. Let\u2019s not wait until there\u2019s something like we see in many other parts of the world where there\u2019s actual degradation. Right now the Antarctic is still pretty pristine. Do it now. Think ahead, while we can.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Will McCallum, of Greenpeace\u2019s Protect the Antarctic campaign, said: <\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cA rough four days of seasickness on the treacherous Drake Passage should be enough to convince anyone that David Harbour really, really, wanted to dance with penguins. There are so many threats facing Antarctic penguins, from climate change to the krill fishing industry. We\u2019re doing everything we can to grow support for an Antarctic Ocean Sanctuary, which would be the biggest protected area on Earth, from pioneering scientific research in submarines to internet lols with penguins.
