But when whenever you use the bathroom, you might just end up using one of the many brands of toilet paper made by <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/greenpeace.international\/videos\/10155346226773300\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Europe\u2019s largest tissue producing giant<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, Essity. They\u2019re the company behind Tempo, Velvet, Plenty, Edet, Lotus, Zewa and Tork.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Yesterday, Greenpeace Nordic payed a visit to Essity\u2019s annual meeting of its shareholders in downtown Stockholm. \u00a0Our campaigners presented Mr. Groth with the Greenpeace \u2018Golden Chainsaw Award\u2019, an accolade granted to those in influential positions that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/act.greenpeace.org\/page\/14642\/petition\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">fail to act to protect the world\u2019s forests<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Previous winners of this award have included the \u2018<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/archive-international\/en\/news\/features\/soya-king-wins-chainsaw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Soya King<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8216; of the Amazon, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/eastasia\/press\/releases\/forests\/2010\/sinar-mas-app-golden-chainsaw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Asia Pulp and Paper (APP)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> and the government of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/archive-international\/en\/news\/Blogs\/makingwaves\/papua-new-guinea-awarded-golden-chainsaw-awar\/blog\/26746\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Papua New Guinea<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, to name but a few. Some have gone on to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/archive-international\/en\/publications\/Campaign-reports\/Forests-Reports\/APP-Forest-Conservation-Policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">change their ways<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> after receiving the award.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Why did Essity\u2019s CEO receive the Award this year?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In October 2017, Greenpeace and Sofia Jannok, a twice-Grammy-nominated S\u00e1mi artist from Sweden, tried to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/archive-international\/en\/press\/releases\/2017\/Petition-Essity-the-Great-Northern-Forest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">deliver the signatures<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> of almost a quarter of a million people directly to Mr. Groth at Essity\u2019s headquarters in Stockholm. In January, it finally got around to writing to its pulp suppliers, asking for more information about where the fibre comes from and what the environmental and social impacts might be.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In late February, Essity were due to update Greenpeace on the response. But they\u2019ve just asked for more time. But Greenpeace is working closely with SSR to help them get a ban on the use of lodgepole pine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Clearly, actions speak louder than words.
