These range from learning and sharing your passion for this issue to passing legislation in your city. Get started today to create a plastic-free future!<\/span><\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-international-stateless\/2018\/04\/7b7efb2d-ocean-plastic-action-1.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Learn, share, and join in<\/span><\/a><\/h4>\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first step towards action is knowledge. Are you a member of a community group that is eager to learn more about how they can protect our oceans and communities? Maybe your child\u2019s teacher is looking for ways to teach kids about environmental protection? Our toolkit has powerpoints and tips for giving a presentation \u2014 you can even host a movie night!<\/span><\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-international-stateless\/2018\/04\/b32b634b-ocean-plastic-action-2.pdf\">Be heard in the media<\/a><\/span><\/h4>\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to make a change in your community, start with local media! Local newspapers, blogs and magazines are a great way to get the word out. In the toolkit, we walk you through how to write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper and how to get it published. <\/span><\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-international-stateless\/2018\/04\/1c062e48-ocean-plastic-action-3.pdf\">Help create plastic-free supermarkets and restaurants<\/a><\/span><\/h4>\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nowhere is the dominance of single-use plastics and wasteful packaging more obvious than <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/story\/15938\/24-photos-of-ridiculous-plastic-packaging-that-will-make-you-scream-then-take-action\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at your local supermarket<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Make waves in your community by working to get a local supermarket to reduce their use of single-use plastics.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-international-stateless\/2018\/04\/be4ea546-ocean-plastic-action-4.pdf\">Get restaurants to ditch single-use plastics <\/a><\/span><\/h4>\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fed up with all the plastic straws and utensils at fast food places and cafes? Join the growing movement urging establishments to get rid of throwaway plastic products.<\/span><\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">5. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-international-stateless\/2018\/04\/1db3bcf1-ocean-plastic-action-5.pdf\">Lobby for local legislation<\/a><\/span><\/h4>\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All over the world, towns, cities, and villages are standing up for a plastic-free future by implementing local bans and laws restricting the use of throwaway plastic. Be part of this movement by working with your neighbours to get your local government to do the same. <\/span><\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 6. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-international-stateless\/2018\/04\/a7b9c72b-ocean-plastic-action-6.pdf\">Add a brand audit to a local cleanup<\/a><\/span><\/h4>\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Everyone loves a cleanup event, so why not take it to the next level? Get your community together to clean up a local beach, park, or riverbank \u2014 but don\u2019t stop there. Go through the single-use plastics collected and identify which companies produced them. Let\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/greenpeace.org\/breakfreefromplastic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hold corporations responsible<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for their plastic waste!<\/span><\/p>\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">7. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-international-stateless\/2018\/04\/0c4a74e2-ocean-plastic-action-7.pdf\">Start a community group<\/a><\/span><\/h4>\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You don\u2019t have to go it alone. We have a lot of work to do, and we\u2019ll get a lot further, and have more fun, if we do it together.
