This was too high of a price to pay for cheap fashion, and so a global movement called \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fashionrevolution.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fashion Revolution<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d was founded in protest. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now in its fifth year, Fashion Revolution Week will be bigger and bolder than ever. Since 2011, our supporters have helped make the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/act\/detox-catwalk\/\">Detox my Fashion<\/a> campaign incredibly strong, by calling for a cleaner and healthier fashion industry and asking fashion brands to detox from hazardous chemicals in their supply chain. Thanks to your tireless, unwavering action, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/archive-international\/en\/campaigns\/detox\/fashion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">15% of the global textile sector<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> have committed to becoming better.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a result of people power from all over the world, many brands have started to disclose information about their production, from working conditions and wages, to their environmental policies, but it&#8217;s still not enough. The\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fashion Revolution\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/fashionrevolution.org\/about\/why-transparency-matters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transparency Index ranks 150 fashion brands<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> based on their transparency, and this clearly shows that we need to ask way more uncomfortable questions to build the pressure on brands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Transparency is key if we want to demand change. We need to ask brands to come clean about wages, workplace safety, environmental policy, the use of polyester and textile recycling; and demand for high quality, durable clothes from brands instead of cheap throw-away fashion. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fashion industry is a huge employer for millions of young women around the world who are often forced to work too long hours for too little dollars. The overall volume of clothes being produced is putting a strain on the environment, polluting water and oceans with microfibres that shed from polyester clothing, and using up precious drinking water in production countries. Ask brands #whomademyclothes<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take a picture of your clothing label, share it on Instagram with #whomademyclothes and if the brand should reply, tag @fash_rev.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>2. Instead of shopping new, take the \u201chaul-ternative\u201d and MAKE SMTHNG\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To reduce fashion\u2019s impact on the environment, be aware that anything you buy new uses lots of water, chemicals and labour. So this week, test one of many great ways to take fashion into your hands and save important resources while still looking stylish:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lengthen the lifespan of your favourite clothes by upcycling, repairing, mending or pimping them out. Go to a fashion revolution event near you and connect with your local community<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During Fashion Revolution Week, there are loads of\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fashionrevolution.org\/events\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">discussions, clothes swapping parties, repair events, movie screenings<\/a> and a million more things going on<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Joining an event is a great way to connect with likeminded, active people in your community. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>4. Be curious<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Get informed by watching the movie <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=OaGp5_Sfbss\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cTrue Cost\u201d<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or checking out Youtube videos on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/results?search_query=fast+fashion\">fast fashion<\/a>.
