Local kayaktivists also deployed a 9.75 x 22.55 metre banner on the water next to the facility that reads \u201cNOT THEN\u201d with a Shell oil logo, and \u201cNOT NOW,\u201d with the Trans Mountain logo. This week also marks the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/seattle-news\/environment\/paddle-in-seattle-protesters-gather-against-shell-oil-rig\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> three year anniversary of the Paddle in Seattle protests<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> against Shell\u2019s oil drilling in the Arctic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cKinder Morgan\u2019s Trans Mountain pipeline tramples on Indigenous rights, threatens communities and their access to clean water and the increased traffic from the pipeline could decimate marine wildlife including the 76 remaining Southern Resident orcas. Taking action today is my ancestral responsibility so that the next generations know what an orca looks like. We have to stand up to these companies and say enough is enough,\u201d said Greenpeace USA activist and Seattle resident Samantha Suarez. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Today\u2019s action comes only two weeks before Kinder Morgan decides if it will continue with its Trans Mountain expansion project. There has been uncertainty around the pipeline\u2019s future, particularly in face of opposition by the British Columbia government.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kinder Morgan and other oil companies like TransCanada and Energy Transfer Partners continue to face fierce opposition as people and groups in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/usa\/in-photos-activists-put-their-bodies-on-the-line-to-stop-a-destructive-oil-pipeline\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Canada<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MazaskaTalks\/videos\/vb.311030065963728\/565951830471549\/?type=2&amp;theater\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">US<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2018\/04\/18\/world\/protesters-built-a-giant-pipeline-trudeau-in-london-trnd-ad\/index.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">UK<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/indigenous-women-show-the-way-for-banks-to-divest-from-fossil-fuels\/a-43544987\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Switzerland<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> protest the impacts of oil pipelines on drinking water and wildlife and its contribution to climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019re taking action today to protect our waters, our communities and our climate from Kinder Morgan,\u201d said Mosquito Fleet kayaktivist and local resident Kara Sweidel. \u201cThis is just the beginning. As long as they pursue this pipeline, Kinder Morgan has nowhere to hide. We\u2019re here to show investors and policy makers alike that this project is toxic, and it will be met with increasing resistance on both sides of the colonial border.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If Kinder Morgan expands the Trans Mountain pipeline as planned, waters in Washington state will see a seven-fold increase in oil tar sands shipments, resulting in a tanker superhighway down the US west coast. This increased tanker traffic threatens the endangered Southern Resident orca and could push the remaining 76 to extinction. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kinder Morgan h<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as faced a wave of opposition to its Trans Mountain expansion project including the<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.seattletimes.com\/seattle-news\/environment\/demonstrators-disrupt-seattle-traffic-in-protest-of-trans-mountain-pipeline\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Shutdown Chase&#8221;<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> direct action last week in front of the Russell Investment Center in Seattle, Washington, part of a nationwide protest of Chase Bank\u2019s funding of tar sands pipelines. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greenpeace is demanding twelve &#8220;dirty dozen&#8221;
