The multinational company which produces over 120 billion plastic bottles a year has been named the world’s worst plastic polluter for the fourth year in a row, according to Break Free From Plastic’s brand audit.

In response to today’s announcement, Graham Forbes, the Global Plastic Project Lead at Greenpeace USA, said:

“The voices of millions of people around the world rejecting single-use plastic have been heard by Coca-Cola. This is a significant step in the right direction, but we will keep the pressure on Coca Cola to double its commitment to 50% reusables by 2030. This is the first substantial reuse commitment from a major brand and the time is overdue for other brands to embrace reuse so that we can achieve the low carbon, zero-waste economy that our planet, communities and climate desperately need.”

Coca-Cola is one of more than 70 signatories, including multinationals, that recently signed a statement calling for an ambitious global treaty that addresses the issue of plastic pollution. This month, national governments and multinationals will gather for the next session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA 5.2), presenting the international community with a unique opportunity to take substantial decisions on the issue.

ENDS

Contact:

Capucine Dayen, Greenpeace USA Global Communications & Engagement Manager for Plastics: +33 647 971 819, capucine.dayen@greenpeace.org

{"_planet4_optimize_post_is_variant":false,"_planet4_optimize_experiment_name":"","_planet4_optimize_variant_name":"
p4_og_title":"","p4_og_description":"","p4_og_image":"","p4_og_image_id":"","p4_seo_canonical_url":"","p4_campaign_name":"not set","p4_local_project":"not set","p4_basket_name":"not set","p4_department":"

73
67],"p4-page-type":[98
post-52245","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-social-and-economic-systems","tag-consumption","p4-page-type-press-release
["GET
