It\u2019s a topic shrouded in confusion and misleading information.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thewhy.dk\/\">THE WHY Foundation<\/a> decided to take a closer look at a material that is notoriously durable, affordable and multi-functional &#8211; yet harmful for our planet, health and climate. This includes well known, reputable recyclers and consumer goods brands. All of them are aware of how dysfunctional the so-called circular economy really is. The numbers were extraordinary.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<lite-youtube style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/oSEqdLxEVBg\/hqdefault.jpg');\" videoid=\"oSEqdLxEVBg\" params=\"rel=0\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;Can we rely on industry self regulation?<\/h2>\n\n<p>For the filmmakers behind The Recycling Myth, the aim of their documentary is simple; \u201cWe want everybody who walks into a supermarket to open their eyes and think: How much plastic do I need? Do I believe the recycling symbols? Do I want to live in a superfast, take-away-throw-away world? Do I accept being fooled by an industry that uses greenwashing to increase profits?\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>In the case of Hayling, it\u2019s also about applying pressure: \u201cI think we can make an impact on public opinion \u2013 which will slowly eat away at the unwillingness of politicians to take the problem seriously. The films are now being screened by both broadcasters and organisations such as Greenpeace International, reaching over 100 million people worldwide who will gain a better understanding of the devastating impact of plastic.\u201cWe believe that knowledge is power,\u201d says Executive Producer Mette, \u201cdocumentary film is a medium which helps us to convey important information and spread awareness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>THE WHY Foundation is a Danish NGO combatting information inequality by producing and curating documentary films focused on human rights and sustainability.
