All across the African continent a colonial approach of extraction and exploitation continues to plague and paralyse economies. It pushes ecosystems to the edge and puts pan-Africanism on a back burner. <\/p>\n\n

Activists from Greenpeace Africa drive three dumper trucks filled with coal to the front of the Eskom Megawatt Park to unload five tonnes of the rock outside their offices. Effectively blocking one of the entrances to the building with the coal. The activists also hold banners calling on Eskom to ‘clean up it’s act’, to “Stop Coal”, to end their usage of the outdated fossil fuel; to publicly demand that Eskom stops the construction of the Kusile coal-fired power station and and shift investments to large-scale renewable energy projects.

Yet our leaders are making a case<\/a> for more oil and gas exploration at the upcoming climate conference<\/a> in Egypt, an absurd choice that is bound to turn a bad situation even worse. <\/p>\n\n

It seems that every day another multinational company is coveting African governments to dig up oil, extract gas, clear forests, or mine precious resources. <\/p>\n\n
