It argues that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fao.org\/documents\/card\/en\/c\/cc3912en\">macro-nutrients such as protein, fats and carbohydrates and micro-nutrients are difficult to obtain from plant based foods in the required quality and quantity<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p>The authors warn that these nutrients have important health and development functions. The Cefusa facility (El Pozo &#8211; Grupo Fuertes) in Castill\u00e9jar, Granada, Spain, is the pig farm that emits the most methane and ammonia in the country.<div class=\"credit icon-left\"> \u00a9 Pedro Armestre \/ Greenpeace<\/div><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is it true that we can\u2019t do without meat, eggs, and milk?&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n<p>So, is it true that meat, eggs and milk contain nutritional properties that cannot be obtained from foods of plant origin? Short answer based on this FAO report: we don\u2019t know. There is simply no guarantee that the messages are derived from independent, unbiased science. That was also the conclusion of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gezondheidenwetenschap.be\/gezondheid-in-de-media\/onduidelijkheid-over-de-onafhankelijkheid-van-een-rapport-dat-vlees-melk-en-eieren-essentieel-noemt#article-detail-wrapper\">Belgian nutritionist and defender of evidence-based medicine who tried to fact check the claim<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When the meat and dairy industries hold the pen<\/h2>\n\n<p>But if it sounds like the livestock sector was holding the pen, that\u2019s no coincidence. The report text has been reviewed by organisations such as the Global Dairy Platform, International Dairy Federation, International Meat Secretariat, International Natural Sausage Casing Association and International Poultry Council.<br><br>In addition, one of the writers who prepared sections of the report as well as some members of the multidisciplinary scientific advisory committee guiding the preparation of the assessment are also signatories to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dublin-declaration.org\/\">Dublin Declaration<\/a>. This <a href=\"https:\/\/sentientmedia.org\/dublin-declaration-animal-industry\/\">pro-meat manifesto<\/a> goes in the opposite direction of the scientific research and evidence related to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hsph.harvard.edu\/news\/hsph-in-the-news\/meat-consumption-health-environment\/\">benefits of eating less meat (especially in high consuming regions)<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/eatforum.org\/eat-lancet-commission\/\">the necessity of reducing the number of animals for the planet<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">This week, several outlets reported on hundreds of \u201cworld scientists\u201d highlighting the importance of meat eating.<br><br>A closer look reveals that most signees have ties to the livestock sector and come from countries in the Global North.\ud83d\udc47 1\/13<br>\ud83d\udcd3Spreadsheet: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/lz0IQm2h7y\">https:\/\/t.co\/lz0IQm2h7y<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1LkYBeTntF\">pic.twitter.com\/1LkYBeTntF<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Sentient (@Sentient_Media) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Sentient_Media\/status\/1654133313274093568?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 4, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n<p>And while the Dublin Declaration may seem like a sober request to ensure healthy nutrition for all, it <a href=\"https:\/\/sentientmedia.org\/dublin-declaration-animal-industry\/\">has been shown that most of its signatories are from the Global North countries<\/a>, where we face an excessive consumption of animal proteins with related health ailments, and numerous of them have ties to the meat industry. \u2018<em>The list of signatories is a litany of animal scientists, vets, agronomists with industry ties<\/em>\u2019, as researcher Matthew Hayek put it on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/matthewhayek\/status\/1653363033467502596?cxt=HHwWiIC-6ei69vEtAAAA\">Twitter<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The list of signatories is again a litany of animal scientists, vets, agronomists w\/ industry ties. This is especially the case in the face of the wealth<a href=\"https:\/\/eatforum.org\/eat-lancet-commission\/\"> of scientific evidence<\/a> collected by the EAT Lancet Commission and the position of nutrition focus organisations such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nutrition.org.uk\/putting-it-into-practice\/plant-based-diets\/plant-based-diets\/\">British Nutrition Foundation<\/a> or the<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/19562864\/\"> American Dietetic Association<\/a> that show that wholesome and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/story\/18267\/10-things-youve-always-wanted-to-ask-about-plant-based-nutrition\/\">well-planned plant based diets can fulfill the people\u2019s nutritional requirements<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>As the pressure to tackle the environmental, climate and health impact of heavy meat based diets grows, the meat industry seems to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/story\/50998\/meat-marketing-advertising-myths-not-loving-it\/\">resorting to the same playbook used by the fossil fuel business<\/a>.
