The group flew over the two aforementioned Indigenous Lands, in addition to having visited the Kayap\u00f3 Pykararankre village, and some other cities in southwest Par\u00e1. The group traveled to learn about the impact that hydraulic excavators have on illegal mining and to see up close the tragic reality that clandestine mining causes in the territories. In 2021, the area mined within Indigenous Lands was 625% larger than that verified in 2010. Greenpeace will continue its campaign to fight for the forest and for Indigenous Peoples rights.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Namibia &#8211;&nbsp; ReconAfrica suspends oil drilling in Okavango Delta<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"674\" title=\"Pan in the Okavango Swamp\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-international-stateless\/2023\/06\/26c5370b-gp03lf-1024x674.jpg\" alt=\"Pan in the Okavango swamp. The wetlands area supports a wide variety of wildlife.<div class=\"credit icon-left\"> \u00a9 Greenpeace \/ Tony Marriner<\/div><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Canadian oil company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgeographic.com\/animals\/article\/canadian-oil-company-reconafrica-pause-drilling-namibia\">ReconAfrica reportedly suspended controversial drilling<\/a> in Namibia&#8217;s Okavango Delta watershed, after facing environmental concerns and lawsuits. This may not be the end to \u2063its operation in the UNESCO World Heritage site &#8211; which is also vital in terms of community water supplies and livelihoods &#8211; but it proves that people power can stop the biggest of giants.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>In 2019, news that ReconAfrica planned the go-ahead with fracking in some of Africa\u2019s most sensitive environmental areas sent shockwaves all over the world. Namibian youth climate activists, along with Indigenous, environmental and human rights groups, have since tirelessly tried to prevent the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/story\/53973\/5-reasons-to-save-the-okavango-delta-from-oil-colonialism\/\">impending environmental catastrophe<\/a>. Campaigning to hold the company to account and to save the Okavango from corporate greed continues.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Southeast Asia &#8211; ASEAN steps up commitment to end forced labour and human trafficking practices of migrant fishers<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"497\" title=\"Slavery at Sea Protest in Jakarta\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-international-stateless\/2022\/07\/ff99da02-gp0stqe62_.jpg\" alt=\"Activist arranges origami of boats during the protest in front of the Ministry of Manpower, Jakarta. The declaration follows years of active campaigning by human rights advocates and civil society organisations in the region. The campaign is aimed at pushing for stronger policies to protect the rights of Southeast Asian migrants working in fisheries.<\/p>\n\n<p>The declaration acknowledged both the migrant fishers\u2019 positive contribution to the region\u2019s economies, as well as their human rights as enshrined in the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration. Fishermen, women fish processors and members of civil society took their destiny into their own hands by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/africa\/en\/press\/\">reforesting mangroves<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>Joal is located close to mangrove forests, which are essential breeding and nursery grounds for many fish species, and are therefore vital for the survival of West African fishing communities. Mangroves also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/ngeo1123\">store more carbon than tropical forests<\/a> and are essential for curbing climate impacts experienced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d44148-021-00107-z\">on the continent<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Netherlands &#8211; Dutch creative agencies choose to no longer work with fossil fuel companies<\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" title=\"Blockade of Shell&#039;s Harbour in Rotterdam\" src=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/static\/planet4-international-stateless\/2023\/06\/e6c51ab1-gp1sw2hm-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"More than 80 Greenpeace Netherlands activists from 12 EU countries are using fossil fuel ads from all over Europe to block the entrance to Shell\u2019s oil refinery. The new standard is now 15 \u03bcg\/m3 for the annual standard and 37.5 \u03bcg\/m3 for 24-hour standard, which is in keeping with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news\/item\/22-09-2021-new-who-global-air-quality-guidelines-aim-to-save-millions-of-lives-from-air-pollution\">revised WHO air quality guidelines<\/a>. This is a step in the right direction to help reduce PM<sub>2.5<\/sub> and solve air pollution in the country.<\/p>\n\n<p>However, the fight is not yet over. Not certifying GE trees is a long-standing principle of the FSC but it came under threat of being changed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wrm.org.uy\/bulletin-articles\/industrial-tree-plantations-company-suzanos-agenda-at-the-un-climate-cop26-expansion-ge-trees-and-fsc\">after pressure from FSC certified plantation&nbsp; company Suzano<\/a> from Brazil that has a subsidiary doing GE eucalyptus tree research trials (in particular for glyphosate resistance). The new climate law, which Greenpeace Switzerland helped to initiate seven years ago, just passed a referendum with about 59% of the voters. From now, net zero is enshrined in the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fedlex.admin.ch\/eli\/fga\/2022\/2403\/de\">federal law on climate protection, innovation and strengthening energy security<\/a>&#8220;.<\/p>\n\n<p>With their votes, the people are saying yes to net zero emissions, yes to quit oil, gas and coal and yes to a huge programme to cut emissions rapidly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Want to bring your government to court over climate inaction?
