That&#8217;s how long it takes the global fossil fuel industry to fill a huge rugby stadium the size of the Stade de France with oil. That\u2019s almost seven stadiums every single day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to get your head around the true quantity of oil TotalEnergies and the rest of the fossil fuel industry churns out, jeopardising a liveable future for us all in the process. They sponsor sports like rugby to try to mask themselves behind rugby\u2019s values:<a href=\"https:\/\/athletesoftheworld.org\/letter-to-world-rugby\"> Integrity. Passion. Solidarity. Discipline. Respect.<\/a> Associating themselves with values like these help companies like TotalEnergies distract the public from their criminal climate destruction.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>Meanwhile, fossil fuel companies won\u2019t stop extracting fossil fuels &#8211; even though they know this extraction is starting to make <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/story\/60675\/we-are-in-the-middle-of-an-extreme-climate-mess\/\">parts of Earth unliveable<\/a> &#8211; because they like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/energy\/totalenergies-posts-record-net-profits-362-bln-2022-2023-02-08\/#:~:text=PARIS%2C%20Feb%208%20(Reuters),prices%20since%20Russia%20invaded%20Ukraine.\">record-breaking profits<\/a> they\u2019re making.<\/p>\n\n<p>The Rugby World Cup even <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/press-release\/61742\/fossil-fuel-industry-extracts-a-rugby-stadium-full-of-oil-every-3-hours-37-minutes-greenpeace-france-calls-out-big-oil-sponsorship-at-rugby-world-cup\/\">tried to stop us from releasing this video<\/a> with a cease and desist letter sent to Greenpeace International. But we can\u2019t &#8211; and won\u2019t &#8211; be silenced.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/climatechange\/science\/causes-effects-climate-change\">The science is clear<\/a>; burning fossil fuels is the primary source of emissions which dangerously heat up Earth, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/press-release\/61420\/greenwashing-garbage-europes-dirty-dozen-oil-gas-companies-produce-renewable-energy-despite-net-zero-pledges\/\">these companies have no intention to stop their climate-wrecking business<\/a>, or their resulting crimes against people and nature.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/CwaQ529riEO\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; Everyone is waking up to the fact that there is no place for fossil fuels, not in rugby, or anywhere else. We will not be stopped from calling out the truth and have released the video today.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">We need to expose what a dirty player the fossil fuel industry is<\/h3>\n\n<p>We want a complete ban on fossil fuel advertising and sponsorship of major sporting events. It benefits no one but fossil fuel companies, and deliberately distracts everyone from the environmental destruction they cause and the communities they harm.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>And, for a safer and fairer world, we must end the fossil fuel era. The fossil fuel industry must stop their climate-wrecking crimes, especially new fossil fuel projects, before it\u2019s too late.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"EmptyMessage\">Block content is empty.
