{"id":64759,"date":"2024-01-15T08:38:33","date_gmt":"2024-01-15T07:38:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/?p=64759"},"modified":"2024-12-16T17:08:55","modified_gmt":"2024-12-16T16:08:55","slug":"a-perspective-from-greenpeace-east-asia-taipei-volunteers-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/story\/64759\/a-perspective-from-greenpeace-east-asia-taipei-volunteers-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"A perspective from Greenpeace East Asia Taipei volunteers: Part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>\u201cI still can\u2019t get the image of fish trapped in nets out of my head &#8211; how they couldn\u2019t speak, couldn\u2019t save themselves, and slowly died.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>Before working on Lanyu Island in Taiwan, Dao-Ting didn\u2019t know much about environmental issues, and she was even a bit afraid of the water. In addition to the bottles, food containers, and plastic bags, she saw many covid-19 test kits, and disposable masks due to the ongoing pandemic, as well as various&nbsp; Korean boy\/girl bands merchandise.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>It was then when Dao-Ting realised the truth: \u201cThe trash found in the ocean is closely related to human activities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>A few years later, Dao-Ting moved to Taipei for work and actively engaged as a Greenpeace volunteer to advocate for the Ocean Conservation Act. As someone who is usually soft-spoken, Dao-Ting never imagined that one day she would be standing on the \u201cOcean Conservation Act Chariot\u201d, talking out of a speakerphone. She can\u2019t bear to think of all the other ocean creatures that have silently died due to human activities. These sad endings are what drive Dao-Ting to act.
