{"id":65965,"date":"2024-03-26T00:01:00","date_gmt":"2024-03-25T23:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/?p=65965"},"modified":"2024-03-29T10:35:09","modified_gmt":"2024-03-29T09:35:09","slug":"eu-bankrolling-ecosystem-destruction","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/publication\/65965\/eu-bankrolling-ecosystem-destruction\/","title":{"rendered":"Bankrolling Ecosystem Destruction"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The EU must stop the cash flow to businesses destroying nature<\/h3>\n\n<p>In this report, a coalition of NGOs shows that 135 key actors in ecosystem risk sectors have received more than one-fifth of their total global credit since the 2015 Paris Agreement, and just under one-tenth of their current global investment, from EU-based financial institutions.<\/p>\n\n<p>The report lays out the importance of EU regulation of the financial sector to align finance with the global 1.5\u00b0C and biodiversity targets, including ending any new provision of financial services to groups that contribute to nature destruction.<\/p>\n\n<p>Six of the nine planetary boundaries that earth scientists have defined as needing to be respected in order to ensure a stable global environment have already been breached, causing interlinked crises \u2013 notably climate change, ecosystem collapse and biodiversity loss \u2013 with industrial agriculture and other land-use activities as key contributors.
