After weeks of droughts, heavy rains brought by storm Boris flooded Southern Poland, especially the Lower Silesia and Opole regions.<div class=\"credit icon-left\"> \u00a9 Greenpeace<\/div><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>This storm quickly followed the devastation from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C_vWOqiijEh\/?img_index=1\">tropical storm Yagi<\/a> in China, Vietnam, Thailand and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/philippines\/press\/67150\/communities-yet-to-recover-from-previous-disasters-as-tropical-storm-enteng-yagi-batters-luzon-pulls-monsoon-rains-flooding-metro-manila-other-provinces\/\">Philippines<\/a>. Floods have also been reported across <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/C_-wbsxMZp2\/?img_index=1\">many other countries<\/a> in addition to a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Greenpeace\/status\/1834210189420937638\">dam burst in Nigeria<\/a> and floods in <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Greenpeace\/status\/1833526003530141777\">Morocco and Algeria<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>At the same time, drought has hit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/italy\/comunicato-stampa\/24590\/ongoing-extreme-drought-in-southern-italy-fueled-by-climate-change-greenpeace-italy-says-oil-giants-like-eni-must-pay\/\">southern Italy<\/a> as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/article\/2024\/aug\/14\/unprecedented-number-of-heat-records-broken-around-world-this-year\">extreme heat<\/a> has been recorded across the globe.<br><br>These are the types of weather extremes that are being worsened by the profiting fossil fuel industry and the case for immediate climate action couldn\u2019t be any clearer.<\/p>\n\n<p>Leaders at COP29 must signal they understand the urgency of the climate crisis and propel climate action forward and deliver a successful finance package, called the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG).<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Climate finance now<\/h3>\n\n<p>Trillions not billions of dollars are needed and developed countries need to act accordingly: that means making clear how much money will be put on the table to give assurances to developing countries about the level of ambition they can aim for in their new climate action plans.<\/p>\n\n<p>Ahead of the 10-year anniversary of the Paris Agreement next year, nations must present new 2035 action plans to reduce emissions, called NDCs, in coming months.
