Forests absorb nearly 30% of our CO2 emissions.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Not only do they absorb carbon, but they store just under 300 billion tonnes of carbon in their living parts. It\u2019s estimated that deforestation is responsible for 12% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Forests are home to more than 50% of all plant and animal species.<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In the last few hundred years extinction rates have increased by up to a thousand times. Taken on a flight from Kinshasa to Bumba.<\/p><\/div>\n<h3><strong>Take Action<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Corporations must clean up their act and governments must enforce strong legislation to protect what forests remain. Today, over 10,000 people are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thunderclap.it\/projects\/9481-standforforests?locale=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">storming Twitter and Facebook under the hashtag #StandForForests<\/a> to show the world that forests must be protected.<\/p>\n<p>You can take action too. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/international\/en\/news\/Blogs\/makingwaves\/dirty-palm-oil\/blog\/48308\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">We uncovered widespread forest destruction<\/a> in the supply chains of consumer goods giant Procter &amp; Gamble.
