Luxemburg<\/em>, 22. Mai 2024 \u2013 Mit einer Fahrradtour macht Greenpeace anl\u00e4sslich des heutigen Internationalen Tags der biologischen Vielfalt auf die Bedeutung des Schutzes und der Wiederherstellung von Natur und W\u00e4ldern aufmerksam. Die Tour, die vom Kirchberg, bis zum Finanzministerium mit einem Zwischenstopp beim Umweltministerium f\u00fchrt, ist Teil der Auftaktaktivit\u00e4ten der weltweiten Greenpeace-Aktionstage zum Schutz der Biodiversit\u00e4t. Angesichts der Klimakrise sowie des dramatischen R\u00fcckgangs der Artenvielfalt fordern in den kommenden zwei Wochen Aktivist:innen weltweit die Regierungen auf, ihre Verpflichtungen zum Schutz und zur Wiederherstellung der Natur im Rahmen des Kunming-Montreal-Abkommens [1] einzuhalten, die Profiteure der Naturzerst\u00f6rung zu stoppen und Banken und Finanzinstitutionen zu regulieren.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

\u201eDer <\/em>Globale Biodiversit\u00e4tsrahmen von <\/em>Kunming<\/em>–<\/em>Montreal<\/em><\/a> wurde Ende 2022 von 196 L\u00e4ndern unterzeichnet, mit Zielen und konkreten Ma\u00dfnahmen, um bis 2030 den Verlust der biologischen Vielfalt zu stoppen und den Trend umzukehren<\/em>\u201c, erkl\u00e4rt Martina Holbach, Kampaignerin f\u00fcr nachhaltige Finanzen bei Greenpeace Luxemburg. \u201eDoch rund um den Globus wird der Schutz unserer Lebensgrundlagen untergraben, weil Banken und Regierungen Milliarden an privaten und \u00f6ffentlichen Geldern in genau die Industrien flie\u00dfen lassen, die zur Zerst\u00f6rung der Natur beitragen.<\/em>\u201c

Europ\u00e4ische Banken haben einer rezenten Studie<\/a> [2] zufolge seit dem Pariser Klimaabkommen von 2015 rund 256 Milliarden Euro an Krediten an Unternehmen vergeben, die W\u00e4lder, Savannen und andere klimakritische nat\u00fcrliche \u00d6kosysteme gef\u00e4hrden. Die EU ist weltweit das zweitgr\u00f6\u00dfte Finanzzentrum, das diese Rohstoffsektoren finanziert.

Greenpeace fordert die luxemburgische Regierung auf, sich f\u00fcr eine Gesetzgebung einzusetzen, die den Geldfluss an Unternehmen, die die Natur zerst\u00f6ren, stoppt und die den Finanzsektor mit den globalen Klima- und Biodiversit\u00e4tszielen in Einklang bringt [3]. Banken und Finanzinstitute m\u00fcssen reguliert werden, damit Geldstr\u00f6me weg von der Zerst\u00f6rung der Natur hin zu Aktivit\u00e4ten gelenkt werden, die unser Wohlergehen f\u00f6rdern und unsere nat\u00fcrlichen Lebensr\u00e4ume und \u00d6kosysteme sch\u00fctzen und wiederherstellen.

\u201eDer Schutz der Natur ist f\u00fcr unser kollektives \u00dcberleben von entscheidender Bedeutung. Sie darf nicht f\u00fcr kurzfristige Profitinteressen geopfert werden<\/em>\u201d, erkl\u00e4rt Martina Holbach. \u201cWir sind auf die biologische Vielfalt angewiesen, da sie uns Nahrung, Medizin, Energie, saubere Luft und sauberes Wasser, Schutz vor Naturkatastrophen sowie Erholung und kulturelle Inspiration bietet und alle Lebenssysteme auf der Erde unterst\u00fctzt. Intakte W\u00e4lder und andere Naturgebiete sind unser Sicherheitsnetz, das uns vor den Auswirkungen extremer Wetter- und Klimakrisen sch\u00fctzt. Wir k\u00f6nnen die Klimakrise und den \u00f6kologischen Kollaps nicht bek\u00e4mpfen, w\u00e4hrend wir gleichzeitig die Ausrottung der Natur finanzieren<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n

[1] Laut dem Globalen Biodiversit\u00e4tsrahmen von Kunming-Montreal  sollen die Staaten unter anderem die Grundlage daf\u00fcr schaffen, dass Unternehmen und Finanzinstitutionen offenlegen, wie sich ihre Aktivit\u00e4ten auf die biologische Vielfalt auswirken.<\/p>\n\n

[2] Die Studie konzentriert sich auf JBS, Cargill, Sinar Mas und andere weltweit f\u00fchrende Produzenten, Verarbeiter und H\u00e4ndler von Soja, Rindern, Palm\u00f6l, Kautschuk, Holz und anderen Rohstoffen, die ein hohes Risiko der \u00d6kosystem-Zerst\u00f6rung bergen, sowie auf die Banken, die diese Unternehmen finanzieren.<\/p>\n\n

[3] Die im Mai 2023 verabschiedete EU-Verordnung (EU) 2023\/1115 ist ein erster Schritt zur Erf\u00fcllung der globalen Klima- und Biodiversit\u00e4tsverpflichtungen der EU. Sie zielt darauf ab, die Auswirkungen des EU-Konsums zu verringern, indem Unternehmen verpflichtet werden, nur entwaldungsfreie und legal hergestellte Produkte in der EU zu verkaufen. Die derzeitigen EU-Vorschriften beziehen sich zwar auf physische Produkte, die W\u00e4lder gef\u00e4hrden und die auf dem EU-Markt in Verkehr gebracht werden, nicht aber auf die Geldstr\u00f6me, die in die Zerst\u00f6rung von \u00d6kosystemen flie\u00dfen. Die Europ\u00e4ische Kommission hat einen Zeitplan aufgestellt, um die Rolle des Finanzwesens bei der Entwaldung und Waldsch\u00e4digung zu \u00fcberpr\u00fcfen und gegebenenfalls bis Juni 2025 einen Gesetzesvorschlag vorzulegen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
