The unprecedented support from over 100 countries for a reduction in plastic production targets demonstrates that our advocacy is resonating at the highest levels of global policy-making.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Southeast Asia&#8217;s critical stake<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p>The implications for Southeast Asia are particularly significant. The region stands to face severe consequences if upstream measures are excluded from the treaty. <a href=\"https:\/\/asianews.network\/from-cop16-to-inc5-will-asean-champion-the-fight-against-plastic-pollution\/\">ASEAN countries must take bold actions<\/a> to support global targets for sustainable plastic production, phase out single-use plastics, push for hybrid finance models and champion the reuse and refill system.<br><br>As Malaysia prepares to host the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kln.gov.my\/web\/guest\/-\/launching-ceremony-of-the-logo-and-theme-of-asean-malaysia-chairmanship-2025-22-october-2024\">ASEAN Summit in 2025<\/a>, we will be monitoring the developments that translate into meaningful action.
