2025 was not a year defined by a single moment.<\/p>\n\n

It was defined by continuity, by showing up, staying focused, and building momentum even when conditions were difficult. In a year shaped by political pressure, accelerating environmental crises, and rising demands on civil society, Greenpeace Malaysia moved forward through consistent action and collective effort. That momentum carried us forward. Take a look at what we built together this year.<\/p>\n\n

Turning Pressure into Progress <\/h2>\n\n

As Malaysia played a hosting and convening role for ASEAN this year, Greenpeace Malaysia stepped up to help shape conversations beyond our borders. <\/p>\n\n

By hosting dialogues, strengthening connections, and contributing to regional strategies, we helped ensure that voices from across ASEAN were heard and reflected in collective advocacy.<\/p>\n\n

We hosted dialogues at ASEAN’s People Forum, launched the ASEAN Haze Trauma Report<\/a> with Greenpeace Indonesia, and raised public awareness with creative activism, including reverse graffiti. Watch the story<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Ahead of the visit by Donald Trump, our campaigners and volunteers held a non-violent banner action to call on Malaysia and ASEAN leaders to uphold integrity, justice, and climate accountability. Watch the story<\/a><\/p>\n\n

We joined hundreds in protest at the ASEAN Summit 2025, reminding leaders that protecting people and planet means rejecting climate denial and performative peace.<\/p>\n\n

At a joint AICHR\u2013Greenpeace briefing, we pushed for ASEAN\u2019s environmental rights declaration<\/a> to move from recognition to real action, turning commitments into momentum. <\/p>\n\n

Progress did not come from isolated wins. It came from bringing people together, like civil society groups and communities, to apply sustained pressure and push for systemic change. When ASEAN moves together, progress carries further.<\/p>\n\n

Defending Forests, Upholding Rights<\/h2>\n\n

In 2025, we continued to stand alongside our allies and Indigenous communities defending their customary lands. <\/p>\n\n

In March, we stood in solidarity with the Orang Asli Kelaik during key land rights hearings, reinforcing the call to protect Indigenous rights and forests.<\/p>\n\n

Behind the scenes, we also supported the community as they prepared for court, reviewing maps and evidence together.<\/p>\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n

Ahead of International Indigenous Peoples Day on 9 August, we led a peaceful march to Parliament from Taman Tugu, calling for stronger commitments to Indigenous rights and environmental protection in the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

In collaboration with Tiga Tawai, we went deep in Sarawak to capture the story of the people of Long Moh. Watch the story<\/a><\/p>\n\n

We briefed Members of Parliament on forests, plastics, and energy, bringing evidence and people-powered solutions directly into policy spaces.<\/p>\n\n

From courtrooms to public mobilisations, these moments reflected growing momentum for forests rooted in rights, resistance, and collective action.<\/p>\n\n

Shaping Solutions Through Dialogues<\/h2>\n\n

By listening to communities and creating space for dialogue, we helped shape solutions rooted in real experiences and collective action.<\/p>\n\n

We travelled to Labuan, Sabah with environmental activist Sharifah Sofia<\/a>, drawing attention to Hidden Gem<\/em>, a vessel linked to the potential start of commercial deep sea mining in international waters.\u2063 Watch the story<\/a><\/p>\n\n

Throughout the year, our campaigners visited multiple sites in Kudat, Sabah, meeting grassroots groups and local communities to follow up on objections to proposed oil and gas project in Tun Mustapha Marine Park<\/a>.

During these visits, it was deeply concerning to witness the impacts of plastic pollution on the livelihoods of coastal communities in Kudat.<\/p>\n\n

Our Zero Waste Campaigner, Dunxin Weng<\/a>, also joined the Pangkor Island Festival Forum as a guest speaker, highlighting the scale of plastic pollution and its impacts on our oceans.<\/p>\n\n

Beyond fieldwork and direct campaigning, we continued to hold space for learning and exchange, raising awareness and sharing resources through public dialogues at universities and community spaces.<\/p>\n\n

Clean Energy, People Power<\/h2>\n\n

With climate impacts accelerating, the shift to clean energy became essential. This year was about building the foundations \u2014 partnerships, trust, and momentum \u2014 to move faster in the years ahead.<\/p>\n\n

Our local partner of Ummah for Earth, Yayasan Wiba Prima, in collaboration with their partner, GreenXperts, installed the solar at Raja Haji Fi Sabilillah Mosque in Cyberjaya. <\/p>\n\n

We stood alongside partners and community leaders at the launch of the solar installation, marking a concrete step towards community-powered renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n

We supported Jaringan Rawang Tolak Insinerator and Hand in Hand Batu Arang at their protest of the Sultan Idris Shah Green Energy Plant and memorandum handover, demanding to halt further activity on the incinerator project. <\/p>\n\n

We joined the Sixth Forum of Ministers and Environment Authorities of Asia Pacific (Sixth AP Forum) in Fiji, calling on governments to address the urgent need for global governance on minerals needed for energy transition<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

Creating A Community of Changemakers<\/h2>\n\n

At the heart of everything we achieved in 2025 was a strong, connected community of changemakers. Beyond individual actions, the focus was on bringing together supporters, volunteers, activists, allies, and communities who share a commitment to protecting people and planet.<\/p>\n\n

The year started with an Iftar celebration with our supporters, getting a hands-on sewing and mending workshop hosted by Seri Mizani<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n

We also tried something new this year by inviting our supporters to join us for forest bathing, creating space to slow down and remind ourselves why protecting nature matters. <\/p>\n\n

We brought our volunteers together for an activism workshop, building skills, confidence, and collective strength for the work ahead.<\/p>\n\n

2025 marked the second year of our journey of the Tree for Tomorrow series with our donors. We went to Penang to connect with them and nature.<\/p>\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n

Together with our volunteers, Orang Asli communities PEMADAM members, and UniKL students, we brought solar-powered lighting and introduced waste separation bins at the Ulu Tamu Campsite. <\/p>\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n

This community isn\u2019t only built on what\u2019s visible. Alongside those on the frontlines are the people behind the scenes, keeping the movement moving. Throughout the year, our teams also took time to connect, learn, recharge, and support one another.<\/p>\n\n

Carrying Momentum Forward<\/h2>\n\n

As the year comes to a close, the challenges facing people and planet remain urgent. But 2025 showed us this: momentum doesn\u2019t wait for perfect conditions.<\/p>\n\n

It is built through commitment.
It is sustained by collective effort.
And it grows when we choose, again and again, to keep showing up.<\/p>\n\n

Like all meaningful change, much of this work unfolds quietly through relationships, trust, and steady effort that continue long after the moment passes.<\/p>\n\n

As we move into the year ahead, we do so grounded in our values, strengthened by experience, and confident in the power of people to drive change.<\/p>\n\n
