on Climate Change (IPCC)<\/a>, which is composed of the world\u2019s leading climate scientists and approved by world governments? If you don\u2019t, here is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/mena\/en\/cold-waves-and-snowstorms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blog post about it<\/a>.<br><br>Well, the scientists are back.<\/p><\/h2>\n\n<p>Yesterday, the second of four parts of the latest IPCC assessment was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ipcc.ch\/report\/ar6\/wg2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">published<\/a>. The report picked up right where the previous one left off: focusing on the <strong><em>impacts<\/em><\/strong> of the climate crisis on humanity, our homes, livelihoods and the ecosystems we depend on.<\/p>\n\n<p><br><strong>What do we expect to learn from this part of the IPCC Sixth Assessment Report?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>How <strong>warming<\/strong> is already impacting us and other life on earth.<br><\/li><li>How<strong> climate impacts and risks will increase <\/strong>with further warming, and how choices of development pathways affect those risks.<\/li><li>How and to what extent can <strong>impacts be adapted to, and risks reduced<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Where limits to adaptation are being exceeded, and causing <strong>loss and damage<\/strong>.<br><\/li><li><strong>What causes particular vulnerabilities <\/strong>to climate impacts and risks, and how those vulnerabilities must be reduced and resilience built.<br><\/li><li>How the particular situation of the <strong>coastal communities<\/strong>; cities and settlements by the sea looks like.<br><\/li><li>What the role of<strong> social justice and equity <\/strong>in climate-resilient development is.<br><\/li><li><strong>What solutions<\/strong> could make our societies more prepared for the warming, sea-level rise and other changes we can no longer prevent.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>Why is this important for us in the MENA region, and as individuals?<\/strong><br><\/p>\n\n<p>Our region is one of the most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/arabic\/articles\/news\/modelling-climate-change-for-mena\/#:~:text=%D8%A5%D9%86%20%D9%85%D9%86%D8%B7%D9%82%D8%A9%20%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B4%D8%B1%D9%82%20%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A3%D9%88%D8%B3%D8%B7%20%D9%88%D8%B4%D9%85%D8%A7%D9%84,%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%A8%D9%8A%D8%A6%D9%8A%D8%A9%20%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AA%D9%8A%20%D8%AA%D8%AA%D8%B9%D8%B1%D8%B6%20%D9%84%D9%87%D8%A7%20%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D9%86%D8%B7%D9%82%D8%A9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>climate vulnerable<\/strong><\/a> regions on the planet, which means we will be seeing the<strong> impacts<\/strong> of climate change faster and stronger than other parts of the world. In fact, we have already started seeing these impacts, whether through<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/mena\/en\/hot-summer-and-severe-fires\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> forest fires<\/a>, and other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/mena\/en\/cold-waves-and-snowstorms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">extreme weather<\/a> events, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.middleeasteye.net\/news\/sinking-cities-how-climate-change-ravaging-middle-east\/RCCC-ICRC-Country-profiles-Region_Middle_East.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sea level rise<\/a>,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2021\/oct\/29\/apocalypse-soon-reluctant-middle-east-forced-to-open-eyes-to-climate-crisis\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> increased average temperatures<\/a>\u2026 all of these impacts which have direct or indirect effects on biodiversity loss, agriculture and food insecurity, livelihoods, quality of life, employment, infrastructure, migration, the economy\u2026 (the list is endless), and most importantly people\u2019s lives. The MENA region is in dire need to develop and implement urgent <strong>solutions <\/strong>to the climate change impacts we face, that are<strong> locally adapted<\/strong> and in tune with<strong> local community needs<\/strong>, especially those that will become<strong> most vulnerable<\/strong> to the impacts of climate change. To be able to take on this enormous task, we need \u2018developed\u2019 countries to share knowledge, finance and technologies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>As individuals we need to be aware of these impacts and pressure our governments to respond to our needs, and safeguard our futures and the future of our children.
