Austrian oil giant OMV is one of the last remaining companies with significant oil exploration interests in New Zealand.
OMV has a permit to explore for oil in the wild and remote seas south-east of Dunedin, in the Great South Basin. Drilling there would be high risk. It would threaten the oceans and coastlines of the East Coast of the South Island, the precious sub Antarctic Auckland Islands to the south, and the Kaikoura whale habitat to the north.
OMV has just applied for an extension to their exploration permit there.
A major United Nations climate report has just revealed that the world has barely 10 years to get climate change under control. Exploring for new oil is the last thing we should allow.
Join our call on the Government to reject OMV now.
