Greenpeace visits the ports of Rotterdam to hold a major Clean Up. Countless marine animals and sea birds become entangled in marine debris or ingest it. If the debris ends up in the oceans it creates an even bigger problem, known as the ‘plastic soup’. Greenpeace uses canoes and rubber boats to clean up the debris and trash and there is a team along the quays. Aboard the Arctic Sunrise visitors can watch a film about the pervasive pollution problem affecting all of the world\u2019s oceans and all living creatures. Two Dutch celebrities participate in the clean up action: Toprak Yal\u00e7iner and Anna Speller. They also participate in the television game show \u201cThe Seven Seas\u201d.\nOp zaterdag 18 april gaan we in Rotterdam de havens in om een grote Clean Up te houden! We vissen al het zwerfvuil uit het water en laten hiermee omstanders zien hoeveel afval er in het water beland… Maar dan? Het afval stroomt uiteindelijk naar zee, onderweg raken dieren verstrikt of stikken in het plastic. Als het uiteindelijk in de grote oceanen terechtkomt vormt het een nog veel groter probleem, de ‘plastic soep’! De Greenpeace kano’s en rubberbootjes vissen op het water en er is een team langs de kades zwerfvuil aan het opruimen.\nAan boord van de aanwezige Arctic Sunrise (Leuvehoofd) laten we een film zien aan bezoekers, deze film zal duidelijk maken wat het probleem voor mens en dier inhoudt. \nEr waren twee BN’ers bij: Toprak Yal\u00e7iner en Anna Speller. Zij doen ook mee aan het spelprogramma van BNN: de Zeven Zeeen.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Plasticvervuiling is overal. Van stranden in Zuidoost-Azi\u00eb tot het afgelegen Antarctica. Plastic heeft een verwoestende uitwerking op de gezondheid van gemeenschappen over de hele wereld. Het doodt schildpadden, zeevogels en andere dieren. We moeten dit probleem aanpakken bij de bron: minder plastic produceren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bossen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Bossen zijn het thuis van veel mensen en bijzondere dier- en plantensoorten. Ze zorgen voor zuurstof, regen en verkoeling. Eigenlijk zijn bossen de airco van de wereld, en daarmee een cruciale bondgenoot in de klimaatcrisis. Toch verwoesten machtige mijnbouw- en landbouwbedrijven de bossen en regenwouden in hoog tempo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Braziliaanse ambassade in Den Haag uit solidariteit met de inheemse bevolking van de Amazone. Op hetzelfde moment verzamelen zij in Brasilia tijdens hun Nationale Mobilisatie. Het geweld tegen de inheemse bevolking toegenomen in de laatste maanden. Wij zien deze mensen als de beste beschermers van de Amazone. Serra de Ricardo Franco State Park is located in a region where the Amazon, Cerrado and Pantanal meet. Created in 1997, it was never fully implemented and, due to overseeing problems, it has become an easy target for land grabbers and cattle ranchers. Over 38 thousand hectares that should have been fully protected were deforested; 33% of this deforestation happened after the State Park was labeled a Conservation Unity.
