It is a cornucopia of sea life.\u201d &#8211; Raya Santos, UP One Earth | Created by AI\/Greenpeace<br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>QUEZON CITY, Philippines (21 April 2023) \u2014 A series of captivating images generated through artificial intelligence (AI) was published for Earth Day during the \u201cPlastic-Free Future Youth Forum,\u201d visualizing the youth\u2019s dreams and aspirations of a plastic-free future.<\/p>\n\n<p>As part of the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/philippines\/press\/56532\/greenpeace-puts-the-spotlight-on-plastic-crisis-through-art-exhibit\/\">Life in Plastic\u201d art exhibit<\/a> by Greenpeace Philippines, the images were based on the messages written by the youth during the exhibit tour, as well as visions submitted by the organization\u2019s youth partners from different parts of the Philippines. Keywords, such as \u201cclean water\u201d and \u201cair,\u201d \u201cthriving marine biodiversity,\u201d \u201cgreener spaces,\u201d \u201creuse and refill stores,\u201d were transformed into images using emerging AI technology.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cThese images capture the future that we dream of\u2014a world where our environment is teeming with life, a world with a thriving biodiversity, a world free from plastics. It would be a future where we could taste locally grown, fresh produce that provides us with the daily nutrients we need, without the presence of contaminants.\u201d &#8211; Therese Mangussad, UP Diliman University Student Council | Created by AI\/Greenpeace<br><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Imagining a plastic-free future, the images show different variations of a healthy environment, including an underwater paradise with a flourishing marine ecosystem, a field of locally-grown produce and fresh water free from contaminants, a community with a vibrant economy for refill and reuse businesses, and a street in Metro Manila without the usual plastic wastes.<\/p>\n\n<p>The images were released during the \u201cPlastic-Free Future Youth Forum,\u201d an Earth Day activity attended by environmental advocates, youth leaders, and government officials who are calling for a future with sustainability at its core. The event was organized by Greenpeace, the Climate Change Commission (CCC), the Quezon City Local Government, and the Break Free From Plastic (BFFP) Movement.<\/p>\n\n<p>\u201cProtecting the planet from plastic pollution also means protecting the future of the youth. They deserve to live in a world free from the harmful effects of single-use plastics,\u201d said Greenpeace Philippines campaigner Marian Ledesma. \u201cIt\u2019s inspiring to see these images come to life and how young people dream of a plastic-free future.
