Greenpeace volunteer Prince Sarmiento from Bohol recently joined an outreach, listening to powerful stories from climate-impacted communities\u2014hear what he has to say [1 minute read]:<\/p>\n\n

“If there\u2019s one thing I should remember from our recent outreach experience, it\u2019s this\u2014 be sincere, show your true self, and pour your heart into what you do.<\/p>\n\n

The island communities off the coast of Tubigon in Bohol are sinking, and the people living there feel it every day. When we arrived, we didn\u2019t just bring a message about climate justice\u2014 we brought open hearts, ready to listen and understand. The community doesn\u2019t need complicated explanations; they need real conversations that connect to their daily struggles and hopes.<\/p>\n\n

We talked, we listened, and we learned. They shared their fears, but also their resilience. Their strength is humbling, but they shouldn\u2019t have to fight this battle alone. Climate justice isn\u2019t just an issue\u2014 it\u2019s their survival.<\/p>\n\n

As I left, I carried more than their stories. I carried the weight of their struggles\u2014 the fear in a mother\u2019s eyes as the shoreline crept closer, the quiet frustration of a fisherman who no longer understands the sea he once trusted, the voices of children who don\u2019t yet grasp the full gravity of what is happening to their home. These were not just passing conversations; they were raw, unspoken pleas for help, for recognition, for someone to stand with them before it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n\n

Because once you show up with sincerity, people see it. And when they do, walls break down, hearts open, and real change begins. Not just in policies or programs, but in the way we choose to see those who are too often forgotten. In the way we listen, not out of obligation, but out of the deep, undeniable truth that their fight is our fight too.”<\/p>\n\n
