Teachers opened schools as shelters. Neighbours shared food. Youth volunteers cleared debris.<\/p>\n\n<p>Greenpeace South Asia supported:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Essential supplies for affected families<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Documentation of on-ground realities to amplify local voices<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Amplification of community voices<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Science-backed research to show the link between climate disasters and unsustainable development<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Our approach was simple: support the people who were already showing up for each other.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Spotlight on Community Heroes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" principals who turned classrooms into shelters, to residents who coordinated relief efforts, everyday people became leaders.<\/p>\n\n<p>We visited the Central Highland areas of Kotmale, Raagala and Walapane to document and share their stories to shift the narrative:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>From victims to resilience builders<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From disaster statistics to human strength<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From the need for short-term relief to long-term recovery<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Because climate disasters are not just about loss, they are about courage, solidarity, and dignity.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Moving Beyond Relief to Resilience<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><img end when floodwaters recede.<\/p>\n\n<p>Through Crisis to Collective, Greenpeace South Asia is working toward:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Strengthening local disaster preparedness<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supporting climate-resilient infrastructure conversations<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elevating community knowledge in climate adaptation planning<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Advocating for public finance that accounts for climate impacts like heatwaves and extreme rainfall<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Communities need systems that protect them and not patchwork responses after every disaster.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\"><strong>Demanding Climate Justice<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter was not an isolated event. It is part of a growing pattern of extreme weather across South Asia.
