Dove claims to tackle toxic beauty standards, while creating toxic rivers.<\/h2>\n\n
Over 200 million of the world\u2019s poorest people are at risk from more severe and frequent flooding caused by the waste of brands like Dove. That\u2019s the population of the UK, France and Germany combined.<\/p>\n
Dove are fully aware of the alternatives to single-use plastic. Yet, the harmful production continues. Every year, they\u2019re pumping out 6.4 billion of the worst offenders, sachets – small, single use plastic packaging – onto communities in the global south. That\u2019s 12,000 every minute! These tiny plastic sachets are nearly impossible to collect and even harder to recycle.<\/p>\n
Dove is relentlessly polluting communities in countries like India, Indonesia and the Philippines.<\/h2>\n\n
Dove\u2019s plastic waste is choking rivers and oceans, and when burnt, is leaching toxic chemicals into the air. Greenpeace activists in the Philippines have seen with their own eyes the devastating damage of Dove\u2019s toxic plastic waste. They\u2019ve seen plastic packaging from Dove, and their owners Unilever, jamming local waste systems, polluting neighbourhoods and waterways.<\/p>\n\n

When it floods, it\u2019s usually because the sachets clogged our sewers.\u201d<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u2013<\/strong> <\/em>Marilou Manangat, street sweeper, waste worker and a mother of 4 from Barangay San Agustin, Philippines<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n From India to Indonesia, Thailand to the Philippines – it\u2019s many of the same young girls and women who Dove claim to champion who are left to deal with waste’s harmful effects.<\/p>\n\n Without decisive action, plastic production is set to almost triple by 2050.<\/p>\n\n Dove\u2019s parent company, Unilever, claims to want a \u2018waste-free\u2019 world, yet just 0.2% of its packaging is reusable. They\u2019ll tell you they\u2019re changing. They\u2019ll tell you recycling\u2019s the answer and that they\u2019ve got big targets. But recycling alone is a dead end. We simply can\u2019t recycle our way out of this crisis. <\/a><\/p>\n\n The truth is Dove and Unilever are letting us down. They have to change. They owe it to the next generation of young girls and women they claim to champion.<\/p>\n\t\t\t Consumer goods giant Unilever is fuelling the global plastic pollution crisis and dumping huge amounts of waste on countries in the Global South.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t Right now countries across the world are coming together to negotiate a UN Global Plastics Treaty<\/a>. This is a once-in-a-generation chance to turn the tide and finally end the age of plastic<\/a>. <\/p>\n\nDove has the power to solve the plastics crisis – they just choose not to.<\/h2>\n\n
