It has become a \u2018bucket list\u2019 destination for Indonesian tourists and for divers from around the world. The view from one of its most famous locations, Piaynemo, has pride of place on Indonesia\u2019s one hundred thousand rupiah note.<\/p>\n\n<p>Meanwhile, in the eyes of conservation experts, the islands of Raja Ampat and the coasts of West Papua are \u2018the heart of the coral triangle\u2019 and are considered \u2018the epicentre of marine biodiversity.\u2019 Raja Ampat is also home for communities of Indigenous West Papuans who have lived in the region for generations. These communities live in accordance with their traditional ways that are closely connected with the marine and coastal forest ecosystems in this area.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:50%\">\n<p>Devastatingly, a threat has emerged to this \u2018Last Paradise on Earth\u2019, as the nickel mining industry expands into the region, bringing huge risks to the environment, local livelihoods and to the future of Raja Ampat as a tourism destination.
