Greenpeace Delivers a Used Trump Hotel Mattress to Scott Pruitt at EPA Headquarters

Activists Ask Pruitt to Resign Amid Corruption Scandals

Washington, DC- Greenpeace activists delivered a mattress to the Environmental Protection Agency’s headquarters this morning with a message reading “Take Your Used Trump Hotel Mattress and Resign Already.” The delivery was in response to the revelation that EPA administrator Scott Pruitt asked a top aide to find him a used Trump Hotel mattress, and comes at a time when Pruitt faces intense criticism over misuses of his office as EPA administrator and his deep conflicts of interest with the fossil fuel industry.

“It’s no surprise that Scott Pruitt wanted a used Trump Hotel mattress considering he’s in bed with nearly every executive in the fossil fuel industry,” said Greenpeace USA Climate Director Janet Redman. “Pruitt has met with industry officials 25 times more often than environmental groups during his time in office and hired former fossil fuel lobbyists to work for him. The bizarre mattress request is just the latest in a monsoon of scandals and revelations of corruption from Scott Pruitt, which is why he needs to be removed from office immediately before he does any more damage to our environment or our democracy.”

In April, 40 national civil rights, labor, conservation and environmental organizations, including Greenpeace, placed a series of full page ads in major US papers calling for the resignation or firing of Scott Pruitt. Pruitt has spent more than $100,000 on first-class flights, lived in an energy lobbyist’s condo with discounted rent after first taking office, and has abused provisions under the Safe Water Act to hire lobbyists who previously advocated for the Dakota Access and Keystone XL tar sands pipelines. Emails released this week under the Freedom of Information Act also reveal that Pruitt asked the same aide assisting him with finding a used Trump Hotel mattress to help get Pruitt’s wife a job with Chick-fil-A.
