In reaction to the Senate’s acquittal of Donal Trump, Greenpeace Executive Director Annie Leonard, said:
“It is enraging that Donald Trump was twice impeached and twice escaped accountability. A majority of U.S. voters wanted Donald Trump removed after his responsibility for the violent attacks of January 6th, 2021, and the Senate did not deliver the will of the people.
“Part of the healing process for our nation is accountability. Congress must censure each member who has fanned the flames of white supremacist violence and has participated in the effort to stop the certification of the electoral college. The House must also conduct a full investigation and prosecute those who invaded Congress on January 6th, and the security approach that allowed it.
“Even if this is not the outcome we were fighting for, we celebrate all we have achieved as voters and volunteers, organizers, and activists who turned out in record numbers to put us on a path towards making this a place of liberty and justice for all. It’s our time now to make the future we deserve. We have a lot of work to do to help people recover from the pandemic and Build Back Fossil Free. Together, we can make this a country where all of us can thrive.”
