{"id":4732,"date":"2015-06-29T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-06-29T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www-prod.greenpeace.org\/usa\/media-research-center-mrc\/"},"modified":"2024-11-20T14:43:55","modified_gmt":"2024-11-20T14:43:55","slug":"media-research-center-mrc","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/usa\/climate\/climate-deniers\/front-groups\/media-research-center-mrc\/","title":{"rendered":"Media Research Center (MRC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class='p4subtitle'>Koch Industries Climate Denial Front Group<\/span><br \/><span class='p4descriptive_paragraph'>$15,005 from Koch foundations, 2004-2008<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"leader\">The <strong><a class=\"zoom\" href=\"http:\/\/www.exxonsecrets.org\/html\/orgfactsheet.php?id=110\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media Research Center<\/a><\/strong> is a &#8220;news&#8221; organization that analyzes and spins mainstream news content in order to <a class=\"zoom\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mrc.org\/about\/aboutwelcome.asp\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener\">counter an alleged &#8220;strident liberal bias<strong>&#8220;<\/strong><\/a>.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>MRC has several projects that analyze various types and angles of media.\u00a0 These projects, such as the &#8220;Business and Media Institute&#8221; and &#8220;Free Market Project,&#8221; have released several reports that claim <a class=\"zoom\" href=\"http:\/\/www.businessandmedia.org\/specialreports\/2008\/GlobalWarmingCensored\/GlobalWarmingCensored_execsum.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the national media favors<\/a> the environmental view on global warming and <a class=\"zoom\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mediaresearch.org\/specialreports\/2001\/sum\/kyoto01.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">excludes climate deniers in their coverage<\/a>.\u00a0 The Media Research Center has also contributed to <a class=\"zoom\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mrc.org\/realitycheck\/realitycheck\/2009\/20091203094216.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the &#8220;ClimateGate&#8221; echo chamber<\/a>, criticizing national media outlets for a lack of &#8220;ClimateGate&#8221; coverage.<\/p>\n<p>In 2009, just after &#8220;Climategate&#8221; and during global climate change negotiations in Copenhagen, Denmark the Media Research Center promoted\u00a0denial of climate science by FOX Business&#8217; John Stossel, in a <a class=\"zoom\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/news\/articles\/SB10001424052748704517504574590152434145782?mg=reno64-wsj&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fonline.wsj.com%2Farticle%2FSB10001424052748704517504574590152434145782.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contribution<\/a> to the Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, MRC promoted John Stossel&#8217;s &#8220;debate&#8221; over global warming, featuring Bill Nye the Science Guy and <a class=\"zoom\" href=\"http:\/\/www.desmogblog.com\/marc-morano\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marc Morano<\/a>, a MRC affiliate and well-known denier of climate science.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/secureusa.greenpeace.org\/convio\/koch_funding.php?o=27\" width=\"570\" height=\"1150\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Koch Industries Climate Denial Front Group$15,005 from Koch foundations, 2004-2008 The Media Research Center is a &#8220;news&#8221; organization that analyzes and spins mainstream news content in order to counter an alleged &#8220;strident liberal bias&#8220;.
