We define climate change denial as \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sustainable-business\/2014\/aug\/19\/climate-change-denial-flip-flop-public-relations-firm-edelman\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">anyone who is obstructing, delaying or trying to derail policy steps that are in line with the scientific consensus that says we need to take rapid steps to decarbonize the economy<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n<p>We do this to hold accountable those who do not state their intentions honestly. Most modern lobbyists&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/energy-environment\/wp\/2015\/04\/05\/this-conservative-group-is-tired-of-being-accused-of-climate-denial-and-is-fighting-back\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">do not deny<\/a>&nbsp;the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/skepticalscience.com\/97-percent-consensus-cook-et-al-2013.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">irrefutable science<\/a>&nbsp;indicating that our planet is warming, but instead deny the need for viable solutions \u2014 such as a cost on industrial carbon pollution, energy efficiency, clean energy alternatives to fossil fuels \u2014 as demonstrated by the science.<\/p>\n\n<p>The Koch brothers continue to finance campaigns to make Americans doubt the seriousness of global warming,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/drexel.edu\/now\/archive\/2013\/December\/Climate-Change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">increasingly hiding money<\/a>&nbsp;through nonprofits like&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/2013\/feb\/14\/donors-trust-funding-climate-denial-networks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">DonorsTrust and Donors Capital Fund<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<p>Why focus on Charles Koch and David Koch? Many large foundations associated with corporate fortunes are active in&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/drexel.edu\/now\/archive\/2013\/December\/Climate-Change\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">financing climate denial groups<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 Anschutz,&nbsp;Bradley,&nbsp;Coors, DeVos, Dunn, Howard, Pope,&nbsp;Scaife,&nbsp;Searle, and Seid, to name a few.<\/p>\n\n<p>Unlike Koch, most of those fortunes did not come from owning a corporation like Koch Industries, historically rooted in fossil fuel operations. And none come as close as the Kochs in terms of decades-long focus on actively&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/blogs\/the-fix\/wp\/2014\/01\/06\/mapping-the-koch-brothers-massive-political-network\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">building a political influence network<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thenation.com\/article\/180267\/exclusive-behind-koch-brothers-secret-billionaire-summit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">coordinating<\/a>&nbsp;other wealthy executives, corporations and families to dump amounts money into politics that not even the Koch brothers could afford.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-koch-funded-climate-denial-front-groups-work-together-animation-by-taki-oldham\">How Koch-funded Climate Denial Front Groups Work Together \u2013 Animation by Taki Oldham:<\/h2>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The Koch Brothers &amp; Their Amazing Climate Change Denial Machine\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IaKm89eVhoE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Billionaire oilman David Koch used to joke that Koch Industries was \u201cthe biggest company you\u2019ve never heard of.\u201d Now the shroud of secrecy has thankfully been lifted, revealing the\u00a0<strong>$127 million that he and his brother Charles have quietly funneled to climate-denial front groups<\/strong>\u00a0that are working to delay policies and regulations aimed at stopping global warming, most of which are part of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/prod.greenpeaceusa.info\/usa\/global-warming\/ending-the-climate-crisis\/front-groups\/state-policy-network-spn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">State Policy Network.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, the Kochs are being watched as a prime example of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/prod.greenpeaceusa.info\/usa\/the-lewis-powell-memo-corporate-blueprint-to-dominate-democracy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">corporate takeover of government<\/a>. Their funding and co-opting of the Tea Party movement is now well documented.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>Charles G. Koch and David H. Koch have a vested interest in delaying climate action: they\u2019ve made billions from their ownership and control of Koch Industries, an oil corporation that is the second largest privately-held company in America (which also happens to have an especially poor environmental record). This money is typically funneled through one of three \u201ccharitable\u201d foundations the Kochs have set up: the now-defunct\u00a0Claude R. Lambe Charitable Foundation; the Charles Koch Foundation; the David H.
