Creative Commons. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Estimated Population:<\/strong>\u00a0Unknown,\u00a0endangered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ways to identify this species:<\/strong> slim and streamlined, bluish grey body with a white underside.<\/p>\n<h2>Sei Whale Biology<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Sei whales are migratory and feed in Arctic waters during\u00a0the summer and subtropical waters during the winter, where they\u00a0remain mainly offshore.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Sei whales are the third largest baleen whales. Adult males measure up to 55 feet and weigh up to 25 tons. Females are usually a bit larger.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Sei whales\u00a0are one of the fastest swimming cetaceans and can reach speeds of 31 mph.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>An average sei whale eats about 1,984 pounds of food each day, eating mostly small fish and other organisms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Threats to Sei Whales<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>After fin and blue whale populations were exhausted, Sei whales became the target of whalers in the 1950s and 1960s and the population was severely depleted.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Today, sei whales\u00a0still face threats from hunting and entanglement in nets.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Balaenoptera borealisSei whales are some of the fastest swimmers of the whale community.
