Ending the climate crisis

We\u2019re in a climate emergency and the oil, gas, and coal industry is to blame.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Our climate is in crisis <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Scientists are shouting an urgent warning: We have little more than a decade to take bold, ambitious action to transition our economy off of coal, oil, and gas, and onto safe and green renewable energy. <\/strong>Shifting to cleaner, locally-run energy will not only slow the tide of the climate crisis, it\u2019ll create millions of new jobs that sustain families while protecting community health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For the last decade, many elected leaders and corporations have claimed to care about our future, but have done little more than say they believe climate change is real. Those talking points don\u2019t cut it anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s time to put people above the fossil fuel industry and truly act on climate.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The time is now<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

With enough pressure, we can push leaders to start responsibly phasing out coal, oil, and gas while prioritizing support for disadvantaged communities and workers most affected by moving to a safer, more caring economy. Together we can also make sure that communities impacted by extreme climate impacts will have everything they need to recover in a way that supports sustainable and livable communities, and holds fossil fuel executives accountable. True climate action also means that giant multinational corporations like Amazon need to invest in locally-run renewable energy to power their operations instead of dirty, dangerous energy production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We deserve a world where everyone can thrive without worrying about their health, finances, or pollution.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n

When Hurricane Harvey blows ashore over coastal Texas on Friday night, it will likely be the first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States since 2005. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA\u2019s Terra satellite captured this natural-color image of the rapidly intensifying storm at 11:24 a.m. Central time (16:45 Universal Time) on August 24, 2017.\nThe National Hurricane Center expects Harvey to be a category 3 storm on the Saffir-Simpson scale\u2014with winds higher than 111 miles (179 kilometers) per hour\u2014when it makes landfall. It will likely produce a storm surge of 6 to 12 feet (2 to 4 meters) and drop between 15 and 25 inches (38 and 63 centimeters) of rain in some areas\u2014enough to produce life-threatening flash floods.<\/figcaption>

The crude oil slick washed up on Mae Ramphueng beach in Rayong province, Thailand after it leaked from an undersea pipeline owned by Chevron\u2019s Star Petroleum Refining Public Company Limited (SPRC).\nSPRC must be held accountable and liable not only for cleaning up oil pollution contamination, but also for disclosing to the public in a concise and transparent manner information on the scope of the oil spill and its negative impacts on the marine ecosystem, coastal fishing community, and tourism. \nGreenpeace Thailand urges the Thai government to form an independent committee to investigate the oil pollution disaster, to urgently review the National Energy Plan in order to break free from fossil fuels, and to halt plans to expand oil and fossil gas industry, which endangers livelihoods, the natural environment, and communities who bear the brunt of environmental impacts and climate crises.<\/figcaption>
