Chevron\u2019s Q2 earnings underscored the need for swift climate action <\/span><\/p>\n

\"Park
After two mild seasons in a row, California is now paying the price: Wildfires are raging statewide, with one, the Park Fire,has burned more than 580 square miles in four Sacramento Valley counties.
\nFavorable weather marked 2023 and 2022, when the total acreage burned in California totaled less than 400,000 acres each of those years. But this year, more than 626,000 acres have already burned \u2014 about five times the 5-year average for this time of year., US-<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Chevron\u2019s Q2 earnings underscored the need for swift climate action<\/p>\n

SAN RAMON, CALIFORNIA (August 2, 2024)\u2013Today, Chevron announced it made over <\/b>$4 billion in profit in the second quarter of 2024<\/b><\/a>, all while its home state of California is <\/b>fighting the Park Fire<\/b><\/a>, which just became the fourth largest wildfire in state history. In response Senior Climate Campaigner, Amy Moas, Ph.D., said: \u201c<\/b>Chevron\u2019s profits have come at the expense of us all \u2013 and the record fire currently raging in California underscores the extreme reality that the fossil-fueled climate crisis has brought upon us.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOvernight the Park Fire in Northern California became the fourth largest wildfire in state history, meaning<\/span> all nine of the state\u2019s largest wildfires on record have happened since 2017. This is not normal. These hotter, faster, and more intense blazes are being fueled by the mounting climate crisis \u2013 thanks to greedy companies who insist on burning increasing amounts of fossil fuels just to line their pockets.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cChevron needs to face its destructive legacy: stop drilling, stop making enormous profit at the expense of our planet and its people, and start paying to clean up the mess it has made,\u00a0 especially as the company announced it\u2019s moving its headquarters to Texas.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
