Chevron announced this morning that its profits quadrupled in the first quarter of 2022, to $6.3 billion, but it\u2019s far from using those profits to pay its workers a fair wage.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nearly 500 workers from Chevron\u00d5s Richmond refinery have been on strike for over a month as they fight for a new labor contract from Chevron\u00d5s leadership.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Chevron announced this morning that its profits quadrupled in the first quarter of 2022, to $6.3 billion, but it\u2019s far from using those profits to pay its workers a fair wage.<\/p>\n

An oil tanker headed to Chevron\u2019s Richmond refinery crossed the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 5 picket line in the San Francisco Bay this afternoon.<\/p>\n

Richmond, California\u00a0<\/b>\u2013 <\/span>Today, two boats with activists from Greenpeace USA and USW workers sailed in solidarity with the nearly 500 workers from Chevron\u2019s Richmond refinery who have been on strike<\/a> as they fight for a new labor contract from Chevron\u2019s leadership. The boats expanded the picket line from the land into the water.<\/p>\n

In response, Tefere Gebre, Chief Program Officer at Greenpeace USA, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cToday, we watched as a tanker sailed in the face of fossil fuel workers demanding a fair contract from a greedy fossil fuel company making record profits. Chevron announced this morning that its profits quadrupled<\/a> in the first quarter of 2022, to $6.3 billion, but it\u2019s far from using those profits to pay its workers a fair wage.<\/p>\n

\u201cGreenpeace USA joined these workers and our friends at USW Local 5 because as workers and community members, our fates are bound together. We know we need a liveable California for the future, one that includes both environmental sustainability and good union jobs. Chevron \u2013 it\u2019s time to give these hard-working people what they deserve, a fair contract now.\u201d<\/p>\n
