Warren <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/donor-lookup\/results?name=kelcy+warren\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">frequently<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> contributes to other federal and state politicians, but Trump and his associated campaign groups have been among the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/donor-lookup\/results?name=kelcy+warren&amp;order=desc&amp;sort=A\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">largest<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> recipients.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Former President Donald Trump\u2019s presidency was four years of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/07\/18\/opinion\/trump-unfit-first-term.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chaos<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2021\/01\/24\/trumps-false-or-misleading-claims-total-30573-over-four-years\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lies<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.citizensforethics.org\/reports-investigations\/crew-reports\/president-trump-legacy-corruption-3700-conflicts-interest\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">open corruption<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and shameless handouts to corporations. Many of his policy changes were <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/climatepower.us\/news\/super-polluter-trumps-dismal-climate-record\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">environmentally<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> reckless, economically harmful, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/politics\/2021\/01\/29\/how-america-changed-during-donald-trumps-presidency\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">socially divisive<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He also attempted to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-biden-democracy-election-2024-f2f824f056ae9f81f4e688fe590f41b4\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">overturn a democratic election<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that members of his own administration <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/top-officials-elections-most-secure-66f9361084ccbc461e3bbf42861057a5\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">described as<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u201cthe most secure in American history\u201d and has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-hannity-dictator-authoritarian-presidential-election-f27e7e9d7c13fabbe3ae7dd7f1235c72\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vowed to use another presidential term<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to enact policies that could move the U.S. towards an autocratic state.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During his first term, Trump\u2019s barrage of attacks on the environment included withdrawing from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/climate.law.columbia.edu\/content\/president-trump-announces-withdrawal-paris-agreement-0\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paris Climate Accord<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, gutting <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2020\/climate\/trump-environment-rollbacks-list.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EPA authority<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/climate.law.columbia.edu\/content\/trump-signs-executive-order-expand-offshore-drilling-0\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">expanding offshore drilling<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/graphics\/2020\/climate-environment\/trump-climate-environment-protections\/?itid=lk_inline_manual_5&amp;itid=lk_inline_manual_9\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">weakening or reversing over 125 environmental regulations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Trump\u2019s current campaign <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brookings.edu\/articles\/trump-has-big-plans-for-climate-and-energy-policy-but-can-he-implement-them\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">makes similar promises<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to grow the fossil fuel industry at the expense of the health and wellbeing of local communities and the environment. In April 2024, Trump made a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/politics\/elections\/donald-trump-energy-policy-oil-gas-donors-1cbc98f6\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">brazen proposal to oil and gas billionaires<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, pledging to enact their agenda in exchange for contributing $1 billion to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/05\/09\/trump-asks-oil-executives-campaign-finance-00157131\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">his reelection<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> campaign.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The history of Trump and Warren\u2019s alliance goes beyond political donations:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Warren\u2019s initial political support of Trump began in his 2016 campaign, to which Warren donated <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-usa-election-trump-dakota-access\/top-executive-behind-dakota-access-has-donated-more-than-100000-to-trump-idUSKCN12Q2P2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more than $100,000<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In the same year, Warren also donated <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/news\/2016\/12\/rick-perry-tapped-for-energy-dept\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$6 million<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to a super PAC supporting ET board member Rick Perry\u2019s presidential campaign before Trump secured the nomination (Warren got a $4.5 million refund when Perry dropped out).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In his 2015 campaign <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-stat\/graphics\/politics\/trump-archive\/docs\/trump-fec-financial-disclosure-2015.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">financial disclosure filing<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Trump reported owning Energy Transfer Partners LP<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (ETP) shares worth between $500,000 and $1 million, as well as between $50,000 and $100,000 in Phillips 66 (which holds a minority stake in the Dakota Access Pipeline). His <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/2838696-Trump-2016-Financial-Disclosure.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2016 financial disclosure<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> showed his ETP holdings dropped to between $15,000 and $50,000, but rose to between $100,000 and $250,000 in Phillips 66. A Trump spokesperson <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2016\/12\/05\/trump-sells-his-stake-in-dakota-access-pipeline-developer.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> he sold his ETP shares in December 2016 before taking office in 2017.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When asked about whether he was confident that President-elect Trump would help finish the final permitting for the Dakota Access Pipeline during the lame duck period following the 2016 presidential election, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/dakota-access-pipeline-energy-transfer-partners-ceo-kelcy-warren-breaks-silence\/?intcid=CNM-00-10abd1h\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Warren stated<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that he was \u201c100 percent\u201d confident \u201cthat the easement gets granted and the pipeline gets built\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Warren then donated <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/docquery.fec.gov\/pdf\/286\/201704180300150286\/201704180300150286.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$250,000<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/insideclimatenews.org\/news\/19042017\/fossil-fuels-oil-coal-gas-exxon-chevron-bp-donald-trump-inauguration-donations\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trump\u2019s inauguration<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Within days of taking office, Trump signed an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/trump-signs-orders-advancing-keystone-dakota-pipelines\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">executive order<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> clearing the way for DAPL to complete construction and begin operating.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trump appointed former Energy Transfer board member Rick Perry to be Secretary of Energy, where he served from 2 March 2017 to 1 December 2019. Senator Elizabeth Warren <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/business\/energy\/2020\/01\/18\/elizabeth-warren-wants-rick-perry-to-give-up-energy-transfer-board-seat\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">called Perry\u2019s return to ET\u2019s board in 2020 \u201cunethical\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and demanded he resign from ET\u2019s board. He didn\u2019t, and is still an active board member in 2024.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kelcy Warren also benefited from Trump\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbpp.org\/research\/federal-tax\/the-2017-trump-tax-law-was-skewed-to-the-rich-expensive-and-failed-to-deliver\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2017 Tax bill<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, despite already taking advantage of tax code provisions to pay low to no taxes in some years. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/these-real-estate-and-oil-tycoons-used-paper-losses-to-avoid-paying-taxes-for-years\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ProPublica reported<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that the 2017 tax law changes made tax deductions for business losses and operations even more profitable for billionaires like Warren.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trump also appointed Warren to the coveted <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kennedy-center.org\/about-us\/leadership\/trustees\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kennedy Center board of Trustees<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and he is still a trustee as of August 2024.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trump <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2020\/aug\/09\/big-oil-trump-campaign-donations-fossil-fuel-industry\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">invited Warren<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to an April 2020 White House <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/usa\/research\/meet-the-oil-executives-visiting-the-white-house-to-discuss-relief-for-the-industry-with-trump\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">strategy session<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> along with other fossil fuel billionaires, pledging afterwards to \u201cmake funds available to these very important companies\u201d during the pandemic.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In June 2020, Warren <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-06-11\/trump-s-dallas-fundraiser-hosted-by-energy-executive-warren\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hosted Trump\u2019s first in-person fundraiser after the COVID-19 outbreak<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at his <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcdfw.com\/news\/politics\/decision-2020\/president-trump-comes-to-dallas-to-resume-fundraising-for-reelection-campaign\/2386745\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mansion in Preston Hollow<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a Dallas, TX neighborhood), where Trump raised <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2020\/aug\/09\/big-oil-trump-campaign-donations-fossil-fuel-industry\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$10 million<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from an estimated 25 attendees in about an hour.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In August 2020, Warren <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/littlesis.org\/relationships\/1895685\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">donated $10 million<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the America First Action super PAC, a pro-Trump PAC <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2020\/12\/22\/trump-advisers-launch-policy-group-449886\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">created by<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the American First Policy Institute, an organization launched by former Trump advisors. The Institute wrote the 2024 America First Agenda which <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/legal-planet.org\/2024\/08\/26\/the-other-maga-think-tank\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">echoes many<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the controversial <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/democracyforward.org\/the-peoples-guide-to-project-2025\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Project 2025<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> policy recommendations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although Warren initially supported Ron DeSantis in the 2024 GOP primary, as of early 2024 Warren was once again <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/saradorn\/2024\/04\/18\/these-are-the-big-money-donors-backing-trump-as-he-trails-bidens-fundraising\/?sh=156950a1728b\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one of Trump\u2019s biggest donors<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and hosted a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox26houston.com\/news\/houston-hosts-trump-invitation-only-event-top-energy-leaders\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">private fundraiser<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for Trump. Warren has <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/heatmap.news\/politics\/trump-47-committee-big-oil\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">given<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the maximum allowed $814,600 contribution to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.denverpost.com\/2024\/03\/21\/trumps-invite-to-major-donors-prioritizes-the-committee-paying-his-legal-bills-over-the-rnc\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trump 47 Committee<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which sends the donations to a PAC that covers Trump\u2019s legal fees, not the RNC. In May 2024, he donated <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/outside-spending\/detail\/2024?cmte=C00825851&amp;tab=donors_all\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$5 million<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the Make America Great Again super PAC.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Powerful alliances between individuals focused on power and profits do not serve the interests of the people. Today, Warren\u2019s company is <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/usa\/energy-transfer-lawsuit-story\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">suing Greenpeace<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/usa\/6-reasons-why-energy-transfers-lawsuit-against-greenpeace-is-outrageous\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">vindictive, baseless<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> SLAPP lawsuit for our solidarity with water protectors and activists in opposition of the Dakota Access Pipeline. The case illustrates Warren\u2019s hope that protestors and critics of pipelines be <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=va3lL2LuLNs\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cremoved from the gene pool\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. ET aims to make an example out of Greenpeace so that other organizations and individuals are too intimidated to challenge pipeline operations. These types of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/anti-slapp.org\/trump-and-the-first-amendment\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">legal harassment<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are long supported by Trump.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/engage.us.greenpeace.org\/M3kmVC7IKku4QFpKhTLhOA2\"><b>Sign our open letter<\/b><\/a><b> to tell Energy Transfer that we will not be silenced, and vote for a future that protects your right to speak out.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>\u00b9 In 2015 and 2016, Energy Transfer LP was named Energy Transfer Partners LP. The general company changed its name to Energy Transfer LP in 2018 after a merger between Energy Transfer Partners and Energy Transfer
