Throughout history, communities of color have been disproportionally impacted by climate change and access to environmental resources, pollution, toxic soil and water, the list goes on and on. The fight against institutionalized oppression is becoming more important than ever.\u00a0 Here are just a few environmental heroes and their organizations who are fighting back against these systems, having an incredible impact not only in their local communities but across the U.S.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>1. Savonala \u201cSavi\u201d Horne <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Horne is the Executive Director of the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.landloss.org\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Land Loss Prevention Project<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, an organization that works to stop land loss in African-American communities throughout North Carolina. She leads an organization that provides assistance to all financially distressed and limited resource farmers and landowners through the use of litigation, public policy, and promoting sustainable agriculture and environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<lite-youtube style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/ApxNctBJpeU\/hqdefault.jpg');\" videoid=\"ApxNctBJpeU\" params=\"rel=0\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<h3><strong>2. Chantel Johnson<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What started as a whim and grew into a multifaceted organization, \u00a0Chantel Johnson founded \u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/offgridincolors.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Off Grid in Color<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (OGIC) in 2016 to help lead her community, to greater self-sufficiency through farm raised food, birth coaching, and community outreach.\u00a0 Johnson&#8217;s experience with living off the grid is something she feels is important to share with others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/offgridincolor\/photos\/a.281259795671933.1073741828.277299156067997\/366072977190614\/?type=3&#038;permPage=1<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>3. Tanya Fields<\/strong> <\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In 2009, Fields founded the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theblackfeministproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Black Feminist Project<\/a> (formerly the BLK Projek),\u00a0because she saw far too many women unable to rise out of poverty and sustain their families.
