Think again. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oh, so you think all of us greens listen to Phish nonstop and foam over the Grateful Dead? Well yes, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/usa\/celebrate-earth-day-with-a-greenpeace-playlist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">we kind of do<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. But some of us also love to rock out to uncompromising blast beats and pummeling snares! Just because you can\u2019t understand the lyrics doesn\u2019t mean they do not hold a profound message for change, a critique of the status quo, or a call to action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The following list is a snapshot into enviro-metal \u2014 from the more funk and jazz inspired, to beautifully cacophonous grindcore, you\u2019ll want to add this to your playlist. Or at least share it with the metal head in your life.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>10. WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM \u2014 The Old Ones Are With Us (2017)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We start off with some black metal as lush as the Pacific Northwest scenery the band hails from. Introspective and dark, this is an ode to the beauty of cyclical nature as mystical as it is poetic.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Standout line: \u201cWinter is dying<b><br \/>\n<\/b><b>The sun is returning<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><b>The ice is receding<br \/>\n<\/b><b>Rivers are flowing.&#8221;<\/b><b><br \/>\n<\/b><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<lite-youtube style=\"background-image: url('https:\/\/i.ytimg.com\/vi\/Y1EOSgJwSY8\/hqdefault.jpg');\" videoid=\"Y1EOSgJwSY8\" params=\"rel=0\"><\/lite-youtube>\n<p><strong>9. The oldest entry on the list, San Francisco\u2019s funk-rap-metal-alternative ensemble manages to mesmerize with the first song on their debut album, the eponymous \u201cWe Care A Lot\u201d. CATTLE DECAPITATION \u2014 Manufactured Extinction (2015)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">San Diego\u2019s premier animal rights vegetarians have been bulldozing their way into our hearts with their frenzied mixture of technical death metal and grindcore since their studio debut \u201cHomovore\u201d in 2000. \u201cManufactured Extinction\u201d tackles loss of biodiversity, runaway <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/usa\/global-warming\/climate-science\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">climate change<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and even channels Fukuyama\u2019s ideal of the end of human sociopolitical evolution discussed in his influential book \u201cEnd of History and the Last Man\u201d. The fathers of electronic music may not write rock\u2019n\u2019roll, but I can\u2019t think of a more deserved spot for number one song. Originally released in 1975, the re-release includes in its lyrics more recent disasters that serve as a prime example for an updated call to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.greenpeace.org\/usa\/global-warming\/issues\/nuclear\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">denuclearization<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
