The proposal aims to Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (known as REDD) in developing countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/planet4-usa-stateless\/2024\/12\/d5101f9f-forests-for-climate-developi.pdf\">Download document<\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Executive summary:<\/b> This new mechanism would become part of the next (post-2012) phase of the Kyoto Protocol, although financing could be made available as early as 2009. A critical element of this proposal, or any REDD mechanism, would be to attain both climate and biodiversity objectives in a manner that fully respects the rights of the local and indigenous
