(March 31, 2026 )<\/strong> \u2014<\/strong> In response to The Metals Company\u2019s latest <\/strong>announcement<\/strong><\/a>of its corporate update and financial results for the period ending December 31, 2025, Jackie Dragon, Greenpeace USA Senior Oceans Campaigner, said:<\/strong> \u201cIf deep sea mining is truly the next big thing its backers claim, why can\u2019t The Metals Company attract investors \u2014 and why do they expect taxpayers to foot the bill? Before Congress authorizes a single dollar of Department of Defense support for this industry, it should demand the answers it already paid for: two mandated reports on whether these minerals are even needed. Until then, Congress is being asked to fund a solution to a problem the Department of Defense has never formally assessed. This isn\u2019t about security; it\u2019s about propping up a speculative industry that risks irreversible harm to the deep ocean for corporate profit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
