The Solutions

Download the Energy [R]evolution report (PDF)

With current technology, renewable energy sources like wind, solar, and geothermal can provide 96% of our electricity and 98% of our total heating demand — accounting for almost all of our primary energy demand.

Investing in renewables could jumpstart our flagging economy, creating millions of jobs that can’t be shipped overseas. It could put the US back at the forefront of the 21st century economy, in front of China, which in 2009 became the largest global investor in renewables.

A bold investment in renewables would eliminate our dependence on foreign oil, increasing our national security immeasurably. And perhaps most importantly, a transition to renewables would protect the health of our communities and preserve the planet for our children and generations yet to come.

Here are the solutions we advocate for:

  • Energy [R]evolution

The Energy [R]evolution is Greenpeace's blueprint for meeting the world's growing energy needs without using oil, coal, or nuclear energy. We show how more efficient use of energy and investment in renewable energy sources can not only kickstart an energy revolution but also bolster our ailing economy.

  • Climate Legislation

In order for federal climate legislation to pass Congress, we see no alternative to active and principled engagement from the Oval Office. Our report, Busines as Usual, is a call to action aimed at the President of the United States.

  • EPA regulations

A pair of proposed rules from the Environmental Protection Agency could turn into the beginning of a new era of accountability for King Coal. Air pollution and coal ash, two of the most direct threats from burning coal for energy, are both facing new regulations. The industry is fighting tooth and nail to keep the EPA from acting, but with your help we can turn the tide and start protecting our communities.

  • Market Solutions

Greenpeace has been working for more than 35 years to let the world know about the destruction of our air, land, and seas. But we also look for solutions to these global concerns. We engage with businesses, governments, and consumer markets so that one pressures the other to create dramatic improvements in our environment.
