Mary Nicol - Student Network Manager
Mary is the Greenpeace Student Network Manager working on the Global Warming campaign. Mary has worked on legislative and corporate campaigns on the local, state, and national levels.
In the fall of 2007, she was a key organizer for Power Shift 2007, working to recruit 6,000 students for the largest youth global warming summit ever held. Mary joined the Student PIRGs' staff as the Campus Climate Challenge Coordinator in August 2006. She worked with students on over 50 campuses across the country training them to run their campaigns most effectively. In the fall of 2005, she helped organize an Arctic Refuge Action Day, bringing 5,000 activists to Washington, D.C. to lobby their Congressmembers on behalf of Arctic protection.
Mary is a graduate of the Green Corps Class of 2006 and a 2005 graduate of Emory University.
Dan Cannon- Student Network Coordinator
Dan is the Greenpeace Student Network Coordinator, based in Washington D.C. He oversees the Student Network Board and assists Greenpeace Campus Coordinators in running the Quit Coal campaign.
Dan first discovered grassroots power after attending Power Shift 2007, following the conference he and his friends were inspired to start a campaign that worked to successfully pass a Green Fund in which $80,000 is raised for sustainability projects on campus annually. After college, Dan went on to graduate from Green Corps: The Field School for Environmental Organizing. During his Green Corps year he worked on the Power Vote 2008 campaign to empower over 7,000 youth voters in Texas to go to the polls with clean energy in mind, he also worked to pressure two Chicago suburb school districts to stop purchasing rBGH milk. Before coming to Greenpeace, Dan worked with the Southern Energy Network to build a powerful youth state network that focuses on taking action around clean energy and climate issues.
Dan studied Geography with a tract in Environmental Studies at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. When not working with his peers to take action you can find Dan in the woods backpacking, or slalom water-skiing on Lake Erie with his family.
David Pinsky - Student Network Organizer
David is a Greenpeace Student Network Organizer, based in San Francisco. His role is to help grow the Student Network by recruiting, training, and working with middle, high school, and college student activists on Greenpeace campaigns. He also runs the Student Network coal campaign and loves fight dirty energy like coal, oil, and gas.
David found his "true calling" with activism at the 2008 Greenpeace Student Network summer training. He immediately went back to UNC Wilmington to build a movement on campus, recruiting 70 students to Power Shift 2009 and organizing high-profile rallies to stop a local cement plant from being built. In summer 2009, David started working for Greenpeace. He has since organized the network's 2009 International Day of Climate Action, launched the Student Network's campus coal campaign to shut down on-campus coal plants across the country, and helps run a program that recruits and engages hundreds of Greenpeace student activists each year.
David studied psychology, graduating from University of Kentucky in 2005 and receiving his master's from UNC Wilmington in 2009. He loves Seinfeld, LOST, being vegetarian, swimming, going to the beach as much as possible in chilly San Francisco, and working for Greenpeace because it is the greatest job on Earth.
