Greenpeace Responds to White House Statement on Whaling

Media release - March 6, 2008
Responding to the Obama administration’s announcement today in support of a continued moratorium on commercial whaling prior to next week’s International Whaling Commission meeting in Italy, Greenpeace U.S. issued the following statement from senior oceans campaigner, Phil Kline:

"Greenpeace applauds the Obama administration for its commitment to whale conservation and a continued moratorium on commercial whaling.

"While Japan's fisheries Minister, Shigeru Ishiba has flatly refused to consider any proposal that would stop Japan from whaling in the Southern Ocean, whaling is an anachronism in the 21st century."
