Oil spill scenario maps

These maps were created to illustrate what would happen if an accident similar to the BP Deepwater Disaster occurred at locations newly opened for oil exploration by the Obama Administration. It takes NOAA's oil location forecast for May 3, 2010 and projects it to locations along the East Coast and the western coast of Florida. Southern California was also mapped for comparison to the 1969 oil spill off Santa Barbara that lead to the moratorium on offshore drilling.
