Our Clean Energy Now! team spent Labor Day weekend on "Global Warming Beach Patrol" in Cape Cod. The squad spoke with residents and tourists alike, touting the benefits of the proposed offshore wind farm in Nantucket Sound. The beach goers were as receptive to the message as they were to the brochures, t-shirts, buttons and frisbees the team distributed.
Greenpeace Clean Energy Now! team posts warning signs drawing attention to the local impacts of rising sea levels and global warming.
Meanwhile, two Greenpeace boats darted along the shore, waving banners reading, "Global Warming Beach Patrol: Say Yes to Cape Wind."
The weekend concluded with a special presentation by Project Thin Ice Arctic explorer, Lonnie Dupre, at Cape Cod Community College. The audience of more than 150 people were impressed with Lonnie's attempted summer crossing of the North Pole and learned a great deal about the dangers of global warming.
We'll be seeing the residents of the Cape and Islands shortly, when our ship, the Arctic Sunrise, stops by on its tour of the East Coast this fall.
