What's your story?

A message from our Executive Director

Feature story - April 28, 2009
Each and every one of us has a different story to tell about why we're part of the movement to stop global warming. Our Executive Director shares his:

philI'd like to share a little about myself, and I hope you'll share your story with me, too. My story starts early on. I was raised to believe that to be good, you had to make that extra effort to do good things.

So after graduating from college, I took a job as the field director of Ozone Action - an organization dedicated to working on the atmospheric threats of global warming and ozone depletion. I worked on the 2000 primaries and caucuses, helping to convince Senator McCain to champion global warming and Ford, GM, Texaco, and other companies to stop funding PR campaigns to create a false debate about the science of global warming.

Then, in 2003, I founded a group called Power Shift, where I worked with the cities of San Diego, Chula Vista, Berkeley, and others to secure solar and energy efficiency investments for municipal buildings and focused on building a base of grassroots supporters to stop global warming.

I first came to Greenpeace when I realized that to stop climate change and environmental destruction we need to involve more people. People like YOU who will do that extra little good thing and take a moral stand. That's what Greenpeace is all about. It's about giving you an opportunity to join us in making our world a better place. It's what sets Greenpeace apart from a lot of other organizations and it's something I intend to stay focused on as executive director.

But that's enough about me. What I really want to know is: What's your story? What brought you here and why do you care? What motivates you to be part of the movement to stop global warming? I want to know and Congress needs to know.

Take a minute and share your story today.

We've set up this great new tool that allows people to share their stories about global warming with us and to send a powerful message to Congress at the same time.

We can't win without YOU, and I'm really looking forward to reading your story.

Sincerely,

Phil Radford
