January 21- In response to alleged news that California Attorney General Kamala Harris is investigating Exxon Mobil Corp.’s possible lies to the public and shareholders about climate change, Greenpeace USA Executive Director Annie Leonard said.

“California Attorney General Kamala Harris will add one more critical voice to the overwhelming demand for Exxon Mobil to be held accountable for its climate deception with this investigation.

Exxon has already cost us decades of meaningful climate action and policy due to its colossal climate denial operation. Now we need the Department of Justice to follow Harris’ leadership and initiate a federal investigation into Exxon. Just like the tobacco companies denied the harmful effects of smoking, Exxon won’t stop profiting from climate denial unless it’s forced to.  Exxon knew, and now climate change has become one of the most urgent issues of our time. It is morally imperative to hold polluters, of not only our air, but of our democracy, responsible.”
