Greenpeace Response to 9th Circuit Upholding Suspension of Trump’s Muslim Ban

February 9, 2017

In response to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals upholding the suspension of the Trump administration’s Muslim Ban, Greenpeace spokesperson Travis Nichols said:

“Trump’s attempt to effectively ban Muslims is anti-American, discriminatory, and illegal. We applaud the Ninth Circuit for protecting the people affected by this order in its opinion today, and we hope the rest of the judicial system will do its part if this case goes forward. Trump’s executive order isn’t about terrorism or national security, it’s simply racism in action. It won’t make anyone safer, it will only tear families apart and endanger more people across the globe.

“Our country holds at its heart the value of treating people equally under the law, regardless of the color of their skin, their national origins, or their religion. This order is part of Trump’s xenophobia agenda and a desire to demonize the Muslim religion and to create a divisive America where we build walls, shut down our borders, and discard the protections that are written into the constitution.”

“We stand with the thousands of people who showed up at airports around the country to protest this unconstitutional act and applaud Washington and Minnesota for doing what’s right and necessary to fight this dangerous agenda. Greenpeace has pledged to continue to resist these bigoted policies and to act in solidarity with all of the communities Trump threatens. If Trump and Congress try to hurt us, our neighbors, or our children’s future, we will resist.”
