Washington, DC-In response to the release of a film produced and promoted by Shell in 1991 that reveals its knowledge of climate change and its risks, Greenpeace USA Climate Liability Campaigner Naomi Ages said:

“The fossil fuel emperors at Exxon, Shell and Chevron wear no clothes. Exxon and Shell knew about the risks of climate change decade ago. Chevron knows and is warning its shareholders of potential lawsuits holding oil companies accountable for climate change. The empty rhetoric from these companies on climate is wholly contradicted by the core assumption underlying their  business plans – global temperature increases in excess of 3°C and its lobbying against measures to mitigate climate change.

Not only does the industry’s future look grim, but now people and governments around the world want to hold companies like Exxon, Chevron and Shell accountable for their past. We need more attorneys general in the United States to investigate Exxon and other companies for decades of concealing climate science- they will certainly have the support of the people behind them.”
