Statement on Death of Phil Clapp

by Tim Donaghy

July 6, 2010

In response to the untimely death of Phil Clapp, John Passacantando, Greenpeace USA Executive Director, issued the following statement:

“This is a major blow to the ranks of environmental warriors.
You will hear people say he was strategic and smart.  True, but
it’s more than that.  Nobody went after the enemies of our sweet
planet with the same ferocity AND twinkle in his eyes as did Phil
Clapp.  Many of us, myself included, learned how to defend the
environment by working with Phil or by competing with him.  He set
the bar.  Irreverent, creative, nimble.  Always seemed to be half a
step ahead of me.  Damn am I gonna miss him.”
